This site is a joke.
OK, I, admittedly, am not a VB programmer. If I was, I would probably not be that interested in the latest releases from OTHER software companies-- moreso, I would be interested in VB news, new tutorials or articles about VB, etc.
If you are going to advertise...do it right, and at least advertise information that is pertinent to your visitor base.
This site is, at this point, beyond me, has been heavily commercialised, and I find myself much happier at my own site and at GalahTech.
Brad Jones...if you want to sign up and join us, go right ahead and you can see what a community is truly about. Sorry this is not it. ;)
At the very least, you should take the time to come up with a decent layout. I mean come on, it seems like you are just picking arbitrary points in the HTML to insert this new crap.
If we must have the stupid crap, then so be it. But you could try to blend it in a little.
I know this is like heresy, but check out http://www.webdesignforums.net/ . ****** as he may be, fliblot made the effort to make a pretty decent looking site. Unlike the monstrosity we are looking at now.
You guys really are a poster child for America (Edit: meant "the American Dream"). Proof positive that dumb****s can get cool jobs. Really chaps my ass when I work hard on my abilities and then I see companies with crap ass employees. :mad:Quote:

What has changed is that the big ads at the top have been changed to a different style of ad. This ad will appear to the right of the VBWire news. When there is not an ad, the VBWire news extends a bit to the right.
As to the 'dropping changes onto the live sytem' comment, the changes added today were actually placed on the forum several weeks ago for testing. We "lived" or "put into official product" the changes today.
Are you hiring 8 year old web developers these days?
Hi,
I've reread my thread to get up-to-date, and I agree wholeheartedly with everything that's been said against the VBWire ads. And I have one more point to add:
If you're going to keep the VBWire news, then at least put it somewhere where you don't have to make the page more ugly. The navigation links at the top, now that I think about it, are getting uglier. :D
Brad,
Whomever designed that should be sacked they dont have 1 bone of good design in there body. And if they do perhaps they should pull it out and use it. I mean it's not even aligned???
What happened to the Admin guy. You tell him where he is worng, and he goes away.
sounds like you dont get it?Quote:

as mentioned before, vbf admins are 8 year old children, so they sleep early... you have to wait till next morning I guess:)
*** is that ad to the right of the VBWire news list (appears on certain forums)???
This is extremely childish!!
The question is... if this is only half done, why the hell have the put it on now?
More evidence for the 8 year old developer claim? :D
I am disgusted at the state of affairs. I thought you guys could make some money out of the harmless ad banners at the top, but now it seems you don't care at all about the members here. The ads at the top are taking up more than 80% of the browser windows, for god's sake! Are you running a discussion board or an advertisement company?
I am looking at other options with seriousness now.
.
Ha! It looks like the hacking of some HTML novice, thanks for the laugh.
I like it heaps ! Good job guys ! :)
snigger
The layout changes around like a jack rabbit (which I assume, changes alot...)
(EDIT)
Heres a better screen.

This is the first I've seen of the Internet News list on the left side. I am not aware of any changes that are planned beyond making the VBWired list and BOB ad (the one next to the VBWire list) look better. I didn't design this; however, I'll see what I can do to make it look better over the next few days.Quote:

Addressing a few other points...
Jungle-man --> you state that you are not a VB programmer. What draws you to a Visual Basic forum then?
I work with other forums as well. I'm aware of what community is about. Don't assume that I'm behind all of the changes. I'm the point person.Quote:

The interesting thing about a 'world-wide' site is that 'morning' is relative. As to being 8 year old children... that is just harsh. As a point in my own defense (one of the few I'll make publicly), I am not the one that decide what ads go on the site. I am the one that has to make it work.Quote:

I say give the man a chance - after all he is a handsome chap ;)

well you are going to lose many senior members who are the real life of this community....
i suggest you make it your highest priority to remove these ads or at least shrink them down to a reasonable size.. we but up with the first run of banners.. but this is rediculous...
look how bad these ads are
it your going to make the forums look like crap you could at least do it uniformly.... the links push over the first post while the replies stay left aligned....

Let's be nice. I'm sure someone worked really hard on the new look.
How would you like it if you worked really hard on a program. Designing its look, and your users started complaining about the way it look. Wouldn't you feel bad??
Wait a second... that's happened to me. I actually listened and made changes to suit the user not myself. hmmm maybe there is something to be gained by complaining.
Keep up the good work.
Let's see if it works.
its not going to work... but we can keep complaining...
and how come the layout keeps changing back and forth every few minutes.... are you guys scrambling to make your site not look like vomit?
There are two pieces that have been added to the top of the pages. One is the VBWire list of articles/news items. The other is a BOB ad (the ad to the right of the VBWire list). Ads are not always present. When there isn't an ad, the VBWire list expands to the right to fill the page.Quote:

I started off programming in VB, but I didn't like it much so I stopped.Quote:

Though, I really liked the people here, and the Chit Chat forum, and found myself useful in the General PC section. So I stuck around.
Brad...I think you can come up with a more seamless way of integrating your VB-Wire blurbs without killing the forum layout. I will admit, they aren't as bad as the banners.
Slaine: He kinda looks like Ian :)

well Brad... is this really the way the site is moving? why not throw in 20 pop up ads to.... i mean come on.. if i came to this site not even being here before.. i would think it was a joke.. how good could a programming forum be when they can't even layout the site correctly.. half the screens look one way half look another.. and i have to friggin scroll all the way to the right in my browser just to see the forum... the internet news banner is taking up the left half of my screen.. you guys REALLY designed it that way??? a 2 year old retarded chimp could put together a better site....
From what I've been told, the interent news list is not suppose to be on this forum. I'm seeing if I can find out who placed that on here so I can remove it.
The internet news table is only in the "New Look" template which is not an official template for this site. Don't select this in the options and you'll never see it.
As stated before, I am not aware of that table of articles being planned for this site. The VBWire list of articles make sense because it is VB related. The internet.com article list doesn't make sense at this point. Placing it on the left side makes even less sense.
The banners sucked. This is worse. It doesn't even looks good because it's in Times New Roman.
I could have at least lived with the banners if they didn't take up half the page. MAYBE if they were like 40px tall. But this is horrible.
I've been in that situation before.Quote:

Where a boss had made a pooorly informed or, flat out idiotic decision that turns out bad. I am the one who takes the brunt of those decisions from both sides. I get it from the users and I get it from the bosses because the users complained about their idiotic decision.
Brad, we are just upset because the site has gone to hell since VBForums sold out. You have a forum here that was built by it's members. You have nothing without the experience developers that frequent it. Doing dumb crap like putting links that don't fit and adds that take up half the page will lose you these valuable members.
What happens when they all leave? You are stuck with 300 newbie developers that are all asking "how can i make a VB app that runs my television over a wireless network, I have been coding for 3 minutes, and can you post the code?" Do you really think AMD will still want to put their odd sized add on?
Tell who ever you have to that is responsible and can make things happen to think before they do dumb things. Heck, maybe ask some members to check it out first. There are hundreds of people on this board willing to help make this site useable.
Slightly off topic but has anyone else noticed the following in the page:

Are those on every page Slaine?
Anyone that has IE6 that blocks cookies, double click the red icon that shows up on the status bar. That VBWire table is genereated by JavaScript, and it looks like that script is also writing cookies for a third party.
They appear to be - I've not checked every page, but they are on all the ones I have checked.Quote:
