They own VBF now.
I guess I miss the announcement.Quote:

okay.... so let me get this straight.... anything I post now becomes their property..... so what does that mean for the text I just typed? Am I never allowed to say/type/use it again? And our avatars and usernames????? I know I'm NOT the only one who uses the same avatar & user name across several boards..... this can't be good.....
You know,
1) you would think there would be some kind of "grandfather" clause.
2) If there are changes to the use agreement, should they notify people? I mean, smeg, how the heck was I supposed to find this stupid AUP?
Actually, it only says posted content. I think I can say that my avatar was not "posted". But yes, that is what it says, very plainly.
msimmons: You are not allowed to post copyrighted material. Says so in the rules.

This boat's going down fast.
I've been working on building my own website (forums/news/potal).... at the moment it isn't much and it ain't very fast (working on moving to a final hosting place) but everyone is invited.
I hope we're just being silly and paraniod and things will not change.
It has changed. VB-World was bought, and the servers have changed. Those are the rules.Quote:

But shouldn't we be asked to agree to that ?? It's like someone sign a contract and then you change the clauses.
*shrug* Not that I know of.Quote:

So much for the free flowing exchange of ideas.
Next thing you know it's gonna cost $0.05 each time you check the forums, and $0.25 each time you post/reply.
Does that mean I can't quote you without asking ?? Oups I just did. Don't sue me please;)Quote:

It's an www.internet.com link.
Well, I've been toying with the idea of rejoining these boards now they're under new management and tosspots like J4U who ruin the site for others are being dealt with.
This change to the rules is of supreme indifference to me. I'm well aware of my rights as far as copyright laws, intellectual authoring and ownership are concerned. These 'legal disclaimers' aren't worth the paper they're written on when all's said and done.
Unless you specifically mark your post as belonging to public domain then it's automatically copyrighted and therefore cannot be copied.
If (in the ridiculous event) it comes down to court action then I'll be able to file a civil suit under the international copyright laws (Berne Convention).
But that is, of course, completely farcical. In real terms these changes to the rules will have little or no affect on the denizens of these boards, so let's all just have a cup of tea and play nice. :)
Yeah, but you know just how much we love to make a big deal of things. Don't spoil the fun now ;)
Yeah Ben, kill joy
I know that signature disclaimer won't make a difference and won't stand up in court but it's all about having a laugh at it :)
My guess is the activity on the board wasn't up enough so
they post something about "Don't tell anyone you love Jesus"
so that activity would increase and they can start selling
advertisements.
I still don't know who the hell Brad Jones is.
I can't believe they banned J4U. Who says he ruins it?
**** me.
Yeah, sorry.Quote:

I'll get my coat.... :p
the only reason I posted this thread is because Jamie is getting docile in his old age, I oculdn't really give a monkey's hoot either way as I don't come here any more :D

I think a lot of you missed this post from Brad. I changed the color of part of it for emphasis.Quote:

Well, last time I checked you can't sell something that's owned by someone else legally...

so if i postVB Code:
unload me
and then someone else posts it, theyre breaking the rules
Perhaps some had, but I didn't. I could be wrong, but I doubt he can legally speak for the owners of Jupitermedia about ownerships of Jupitermedia property, unless he is the owner of Jupitermedia.Quote:

The AUP Agreement is a legally binding document. Does Brad have the Authority to Modify it,
{ I mean to say to make it less restrictive. After all, according tothe Admins here can make it more restrictive, but less?}Quote:

If what he says is true, then there is no problem to have it
modified.
But as of this moment, It doesn't say anything like:
"Any code -- unless you sold it to VBWorld/VBForums -- is owned by the poster"
-Lou
That was the point of my post exactly. If both are true, that means we have code that we both own exclusively (the sentence makes no sense, which nicely fits into context). So, basically its a paradox...

Obviously by posting code here we are putting it out to the public to do with as they wish. As soon as it is publically posted it is free game regardless of legal documents. Cmon now, be real, the code we have postes here has prolly ended up in thousands of applications already. I know some of my code is in your apps and some of your code is in my apps. If the owners of this website wish to use the code I post to make some $$$ then more power to them. I would never post sensitive stuff here anyway. However, If you are using our brainpower to make money do not treat us like a bunch of dickheades for blowing off steam in a chitchat forum. If It makes the God Guy feel better to preach, then let him. He has helped a lot of people, including myself with technical problems.Quote:

Marty I'm not bashing you. You've been a mod here for a long time and 99.9% of the time you handle things fairly.
Welcome to the fooking forums Brad :D
What he said. :)Quote:

The AUP says nothing about ownership. Its actually quite elegant. JupiterMedia gets, as MasterBlaster said, an "exclusive and perpetual license" to whatever you post. Its still yours, and you are still responsible for it, but you can no longer post it/publish/distribute it in any other way, ever.
And Ben, stop being a killjoy =P
Z.
Pffft...I say let'em have it. Anyone dumb enough to use anything I code deserves what they get.
;)
This place is a ******* joke now. ****. Watch your membership drop like a rock. No amount of phony members is gonna save you.
