no i didn't get it from her! its her book so don't ask me. i just read minds and predicted that its from the book. she never mentioned anything to me about this question and where she got it from.

It's just me Bugz and Kalkewl8ter. Bugz is in grade 11, I'm in grade 10 and so is Kalkewl8ter. But she skipped ;) I'm the least knowledgeable in math by far of the three. Our teacher is really really experienced in math. He's one of the best of the best of the best! Unfortunately i started out in a French Catholic school.

does it matter? why do you compare yourself to other people? there is ALWAYS somebody who is better than you!! if you can handle the pace of learning you keep on doing it. there is billions of ppl on the planet. just do whats best for yourself at your own pace and needs.

I originally took the coconut problem and solution from Martin Gardner's book The Colossal Book of Mathematics, so bugz and his psychic ability were right. Also, Silver Sprite and bugz, why are you always having these pointless discussions over small matters in this forum? Silver Sprite, you are much more talented than bugz in I in many other areas, and though this is a math forum, there are other things in life besides math. Don't post discouraging messages just because of math.:cool:

i will tell you one thing, your answer is not incorrect.
Um, how would 3121 work?
First man:
Lower (3121/5) = 624.
So 624 in each pile, 5 piles with the extra in the monkey's pile.
First man takes away 624.
Now there are 3121 - 624 = 2497. In the pile.
If the next man takes that pile, divides it by 5, he will not have 1 left over, he will have 2.
499 in each pile, and 2 extra coconuts. ?? Am I missing something?
