i thought that was bs, but you can knock ppl out with bursts of sound at a certain frequency and if it's intense enough you can make them explode, it has something to do with a dish in some parabola and the human has to be at the focus.

if you transmit at the same frequency as brain waves, then its just simple physics.

well coca-cola is meant to destroy anything because of the acid in it, and AOL cds seem pretty indestructable, so you could put the AOL cd in a bowl of coca-cola and see what the results are a couple of days later, though the metal layer will probably come off first, but still could be interesting

I use mine as targets for the air rifle - they shatter and make fantastic explosions when you hit them.

Just make sure you wearing safety specs!

Ya know how someone can shatter a glass by singing? Its because they are singing at the glasses resonance value, it is forced to absorb the energy. I tried the binaca thing except the wind blew out my tissue fuse before it got to the explosive! But, because the fuse went under the cd, the cd still looks like it went through a battle. Oh yah, I tried the resinance device on a spare person, My sisters broken now! She won't work any more

OK what you want to do is the following:

1) get LOTS of rust. Like a bucket full of it. Just leave like 500 nails out over a few weeks of rain and scrape it all off. IF you want more quickly, you need a d.c. mains adapter (like for a model railway or electric keyboard), and to follow these rules:
a) cut off the bit that goes into the keyboard/railway.
b) take the plastic off of both wires for about 6 inches and then separate them completely
c) tie a nail onto the positive wire (usually the one that had red/white coating on)
d) get a bucket/jug whatever of water
e) find a way to dangle both of the separate wires into the bucket, quite close to each other but NOT touching.
f) plug in and turn on. wait over night and PURE rust should have formed on the nail. that's why this method works great because the rust is pure so u dont need lots of it. scrape the rust off and repeat
note) you could use some transformers and fiddle with the dc adaptor so you get more current out of it, because the higher the current the faster it is.

2) get any kind of *aluminium* filings from a hardware store, bearing in mind they need to be small so can's won't do.

NOTE) you need about 3 times as much rust as aluminium, i reccomend 25g of aluminium and 75g of rust.

It might take a few weeks to do that...

3) mix the two together nicely and ground the mixture up nice and smooth.

4) now get a flower pot. put about 10 sparklers far enough through the hole in the bottom so that the burning part will go a fair way into your mixture (which will go in later). tape them at the bottom (with as little tape as possible) to hold them in.

5) dump the mixture in, and find somewhere to put the pot so that you don't have to be anywhere near it but it can still stand upright with about a foot of space underneath the hole. (like on a tripod or something). put another cd sized pot underneath the hole, and just to the side so the mixture doesnt go through the middle of the cd when the event happens.

Now, you can either perform the operation now and have the cd disintegrated (skip this part), OR you can add some style to it by doing the following:

a) get 6 plastic coke bottles
b) fill them one third with petrol/gasoline, one third with creosote or some other woodpreserver stuff and leave the other third empty.
c) shake them carefully (not hard)
d) put the tops on

You need to put the flower pot arrangement in such a way that there is ANOTHER foot of space between the bottom pot and the ground, and get the biggest ceramic flat thing you can find (metal will really not do, you need something that wont melt) (with raised edges so it keeps the stuff in) and put it underneath the cd.

e) put the bottles around this tray at equal distance to the middle from eachother.

You could do this using some step ladders and 4 planks of wood:

open them both with the steps facing each other. Put 2 planks an inch apart on the 2nd steps, and put the pot with the cd in the middle with the hole over the gap. 2 more planks an inch apart in on the 4th steps, and put the mixture pot in almost exactly the same place on that row. put the trayof bottles underneath the hole in the cd pot on the ground.

You are set! IF you chose to go the boring way, read this:
Light a match NEXT to the top of the sparklers so that when it flares quickly, it is touching one/some of them. Keep repeating in the same place until they light. Get away!!! If you've set it up right, the sparks will go down into the mixture and cause it to react. It will go red hot, and produce molten iron (with that setup at about 3200 degrees C). The iron should pour out over the CD and destroy it! Leave the iron in the bottom pot for about 8 hours for it to cool down, DONT use water, that just makes a loud noise and doesnt really help. If the mixture doesnt light after the sparks ahve gone in, get a hose and soak it in water. Wait 10 minutes and then carefully empty it out. You need to dry it and try again!

IF on the other hand you have chosen the stylish way, read this:
Light a match NEXT to the top of one of the sparklers, blah blah, read above. When it lights, run like HELL (u need to be about 30 feet back at LEAST). The iron will pour out destroying the CD, and pouring the whole lot into the bottom tray. As soon as the bottles heat up enough (a few seconds later) they will explode sending a symbolic fireball tens of feet into the sky along with your melted cd.

Well you won't acutally go blind, but it'll be pretty bright....

You're totally right, the instructions do require you to create thermite. And you're right too, it is crap thermite. Getting it from the electrolysis method and aluminium filings is sufficient for this operation though.

Thermite is a mixture of Iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) and aluminium (Al). The reason they react is as follows:

When you have "<unreative metal> oxide + <reactive metal>" the reactive metal 'steals' the oxide from the unreactive one, leaving "<reative metal> oxide + <unreactive metal>". This is exothermic meaning it gives off heat. How much depends on the difference in reacitivty between the metals involved. Iron and aluminium work well because they are household items and the temperature required to set off the reaction is lower than it could be (thats why we use sparklers instead of a string).

And yes, magnesium ribbon would do nicely;)

In a perfect world you would use a Helium oxide with Francium, but since the first isn't possible to create and the second exists sod all naturally, the best you can do is Copper oxide with Caesium. You'd have to do it in a lab for many reasons and I'm not guaranteeing it wouldn't set the building on fire...

Caesium isn't exactly easy to get either though. Potassium maybe.

I can see clearly now the rain has gone.

Get a Tube with the diameter of the CD.Put the cd in a 10-liter phosphorous-sulfur solution. Add 2 kilograms of pure calcium. Try to cross trajectory with an incoming car. With any luck, the CD and burning chemical reaction will douse the card and poison anyone who breathes the fumes for weeks.
