Yep, Celerons suck, I'm running a cel 1.1, and I think its similar to my old P3 667. It does well on Windows Stuff, but games it can really choke. :(Quote:

Agree with Justin, do a wide detour aroung those Celeron things..
This may have already been said but, just in case.
I think the Cel 1.1 and lower has a cache of 128k, while the cel 1.2 has a cache of 256... but as it has been said, the Pentium 4 is 512 or something now.
Am I write about this??
And can I swap my Cel 1.1 for something else without having to replace the motherboard???
Make sure to get one that doesn't beat you :) Asus is China KingQuote:

1.1-1.3 is S370 but a different form of S370 and has 256K of cache
1.4 and above use the P4 architecutre (ewwww) and have 128K of cache.
I might be wrong though...
Anyways, if you want to upgrade your Celly 1.1, go to Newegg, get a Socket A motherboard, some DDR RAM, and an Athlon XP 1600 (on sale for $54); mine is overclocked to 1.75Ghz with basic air cooling and some people are reporting 1.8 or 1.9 with these chips. They are incredible overclockers.
Shouldn't run you too much for the whole package either. :)
/edit: Realized you are in Aussie-land and don't have Newegg. Oh well, same still applies. XP1600 + KT333 board + DDR is a killer combo for cheap.
The cache isn't the only difference a Cel runs at 66Mhz FSB and the others run either 100 or 133Mhz FSB. So the ability yo switch depends on whether your mobo supports higher FSB or not. Also the newer Celerons (with Pentium cores) run at 100 Mhz and have a better cache(not sure on the cache though). Also don't foget there all voltage differences if you switch, although your mobo will probably take care of that for you.Quote:

The celerons aren't so bad, we use them at work and they are fine for non-Gaming. Although if you can use something with a higher front side bus.
Wonder's why he is subscribed to this thread:confused:
