I really though Portugal had a chance but they lost to USA!!! Remember US was placed last in 98.

We still have chances. See you later.
2. We were sent back home in 86, victims of blatant cheating. Can't be proud of that IMO
3. I make it England 3 Argentina 2 in past history - we did you 3-1 in '62 and 1-0 in '66 (when Antonio Rattin was sent off for harrassing the Ref, and wouldn't leave the pitch for 10 mins)
4. In the last 2 matches, you haven't scored from open play. Basically, you didn't look that good. we made tactical errors and we STILL managed to **** all over you (last 15 minutes notwithstanding)
Yeas, you still have chances, but maybe you should play football first...
Gaffs the gruffy hooligan :p
Don't worry gaffs, the Argies will have their revenge one time or another but for now Inglaterria has won it ;)
I'm really ashamed of our piss poor performance. Turned off the set 10 minutes before time really really disgusted.
This is absolutely the last time I'll bother with them.
Good job you're not english wally - you would have given up years ago
what's a gruffy hooligan?
Oh, and Juan, point 5. Your boys aren't playing rugby now. Remeber, in rugby, kicking over the bar gets 3 points. You get nothing in football :p
whoops a 'y' too much :p
Still not comfy with Veron are you ? :)
what's this "we" business Gaf, thought you were a NI'er ;)Quote:

Just stating fact mate :)
I thought Veron was rubbish on Friday - no wonder he got taken off...
On brighter notes - have you seen Cafu play for Brazil yet? They guy is the payer of the tournament so far IMO... :D
heh, I am a NI'er, but my parents are englishQuote:

Anyway, as a football fan I gave up waiting for NI to qualify 20 years agao (spain '82...) - I don't consider Steve lomas to be the next George Best...

Argentina Midfield in Alan Sunderland shocker!!
I'm seriously impressed by a quite a number of brasilians actually : Cafu, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho ...
Rivaldo should seek employment in the National Theather tho
Veron is always rubbish when he's being handled hard and not given much space (see united games). But he's not the only disappointing player IMO : Crespo (haven't seen him), Aimar (2 subs and rubbish), Batistuta (1 goal and nothing more) ...
But, admit one thing:
the Owen penalty, wasn't there a little diving involved ? I certainly thought so. He clearly went for it and got away with it. There was a bit of shoving but not too much.
I thought that initially, but fortunately we've had the benefit of 3000 replays of the incident since. There are 3 main camera shots of the penalty incident. 2 of them are inconclusive and make Owne look like he dived.Quote:

But the side camera angle shows the defender clearly sticking his leg out and Owen had no hope. The incident was as harsh as the foul on Sinclair just after it.
fair enough, didn't see all the replays :)
Just thought that there might be a bit of diving involved.
On the subject of refereeing :
How about the not awarded penalty to Russia ? Or the goals of Italy ? The goal of Japan ?
Is it just me or has refereeing hit a new low in this WC ?
A lot of situations were debatable at the very least
Owen's always diving for Liverpool :p
From what I've seen, the standard of Refereeing has been excellent so far. Even better if they can help get rid of Italy ;)
Yeah there's been some dodgy decisions, especially against Italy - hopefully it will be a catalyst for the acceptance of instant replays or hoest pills.
I'll go for the honesty pills - I'd love to see someone like Crespo hold his hands up and say he dived.... :D
Let's hope they don't confuse them with Viagra
Gives a whole different meaning to standing up for honesty :D
The Italian ref doing Eng/Arg is reportedly the best in the business, so if he says it's a penalty, then by gum it was a penalty :p
Pah ! Dirty cheating thieving pom shortarse is more like it  :p
Another piece of news from the Arg-Eng match on Friday - As England Defender Danny Mills was being interviewed by the press in the tunnel after the game, he was struck on the back of the head by an unnamed Argentinian player. Mills has decided not to press charges.
Nothing lke losing graciously...
apparently Scholes was called a 'bastardo' by some argies behind him during an interview as he came off the field
I didn't know "bastardo" was Argintinian for "Ginger"... :p
learn something new everyday ;)
:D
Funny old football game eh ...
GOt an updated spread sheet that jamie posted, so you can play around with all the final results to see who qualifies :)
Ian
well I would post it, but eh upload doesn't seem to work.
at last :D
the interesting groups are A and G, everyone in group A can finish on 4 points and Mexico can go out on 6
THIS is an interetsing group...

Hey the ref had a good game and almost got Bell jam up:rolleyes:
There has been a lot of debate while I was out!
The first goal against England in 1986 was undoubtly mad by hand. But the second goal, was voted the best goal in history.
And don't talk about cheating, the penalty against Aymar wasn't seen by the referee?
See you in semi-finals!
Which penalty against Aimar would that be? I don't remember anything that would have been a penalty.
I'm not denying the second goal in 86 - but when the rest of the world concedes that while Argentina have a true natural football ability, they also see them as a team that embarassingly bend the rules.
Now, that obviously sits comfortably with the Argentinian nation, but how do you feel about the abuse suffered by the England players during and after the game on Friday?
I for one would be very happy for Danny Mills, harder than Veron's skull, to show his true Leeds form and beat the bejeesus out of the scum that spat at him during the match and hit him after the match.
I can talk about cheating, because I support a team that rarely bends the rule - ie are sporting.
