Ever since Belgian independence (1830), there has always been a fight between the french speaking part and the flemish speaking part. Even a week ago they were at it again :mad:
It's been nothing but squabbling, back stabbing, sniping, communary (sp ?) hatred and infighting.

I'd say that I was an American born and bred and proud of it but I don't think I want to put up with the flaming I would undoubtedly get.

Not officially of course but it doesn't require a Uni degree in Politics to read between the lines.
It's a mess really. The compromise politics worked well for a while but now one side practically demands confederalism (Flanders) and the other side refuses to accept. It would for them mean a loss in income and a loss of political power, not to mention the struggle for Brussels.
The question now is : do we want more federalisation or do we just dissolve this unhappy marriage.
A bit like Scotland but every bit as bitter.
