Hey Gaming, you could start writing the changes in a text file... to keep track of stuff, like they do in most games :)
I'll think about it.
And you should take people's advice/suggestions, even if that means that your final game will have nothing to do with what you first thought - or no one will download it :D (you know how these things are)
Look at Sentience or Galaxy for example... compare the first version with the current one :)
Customization will work fine!
It just may not look like it will; the trick is trying to do it no matter what your outlook is. Think about it; you could have different solar systems, planets having different satellites, things moving throughout turns (really cool!) and different stuff.
Yes :)
And if each object can have its own sub-objects, you can even have double suns (very common in other galaxies), planets with their own moons, moons with space stations, blasted battleships orbitating the spacestations ;)
Oh and some different objects like nebulaes, black holes and pulsars :)
I think it's a hell of an idea. It would even allow you to have a folder with pics for planets (different sizes and all :) ), a folder with pics of stars, and so on, this way the universe would never get boring :)
Oh you don't need a really good graphics artist for these pics. The universe is so big that the fleets and space stations would be just small dots with their name on it, and you can get as many pics of space objects as you want at NASA's or Hubble's websites!
You could leave the battle moons and tech planets to the end, because if it comes out good enough, you wouldn't have any problems finding artists ;)
Just another thing, this way you wouldn't be limited to a (relatively) small map. The universe could be as big as the Long datatype allows for numbers to define an object's position :D, and you wouldn't be as limited to the player's CPU power and ammount of RAM as you are with a tile-based engine :)
(Btw if you don't want these ideas, I'll use them ;) )
I like the ideas, and will probly use them, just not for this game. I want people to be able to do a total converson of planet wars into, lets say, a (whats the name of that dumb cartoon with goko) game.
Well, I'll do the game with these ideas (don't worry because it won't be the same type as yours ;) just the universe is gonna be organized this way), but it doesn't mean you can't use them, like converting inhabitable planets into battle moons and all :)
I've already started collecting images (about 1-1.5 hours ago)
I'm going to start a thread under the comm. formuals for ideas, advice, and help about/with the new game, titled Galaxy Wars.
Look at this little thing I made...
It gives you an idea anyways... it's a little project I've been working on for some time now (3 weeks maybe?) and I've found it does demonstrate some of the stuff we've been talking about.
Like I said, I would prefer any talk about the new project to be in the thread under the comms forumal.
Cool :)
Do the planets rotate around the sun?
Btw you should really find another background... it doesn't go well with the hi-quality graphics you're using for the planets ;)
lol. The entire point of Planet Wars orginally was so that I could pactice make a tile based engine and writting AI, not how good of graphics I could find to steal for a game.
Sorry Gaming, I was talking to Sas... :)
So, huh... you need ideas for your game, or you just want people to play it? :D
To answer your question about the planets, have a look at this:
Cool, that's exactly what I mean :)
I'm about to make a game kinda like that... of course it's not gonna be the same type of strategy as Planet Wars, that would be lame :)
Oh wait... is that a game you're making?...
Hey wait, just in case you didn't get it: I'm not saying that that type of game is lame (duh), I'm saying that it would be lame to copy his style of strategy :)
Well it was just a little something I made after being inspired that while ago (3 weeks), but I'm making ToW so 99% likely it's not going to be a game =)
Ok :)
Do you think I should make it a strategy game where you control a space empire, or an adventure game where you control a small group of renegade mercenaries or something? ;)
(I just wanna put the great idea I had into some good use :D )
Just for your knowladge Jotaf, there is a stragige game already like that (call Solar Wars), do a search on download.com for either Solar Wars or Planet Wars and you will find it.
Hell, there are dozens of Zelda clones, why can't I make a Solar Wars clone then? :D
I just thought that I would point it out to you.
I think it would be neat if you did an adventure game out of it, then you wouldn't be competing with Gaming_World. I think that's the best idea.
Do you want me to send over the code I have, to give you some ideas? It's the most structured piece of code I've ever written, but it has no comments.
Yes, thanks Sas. I'll put you in the "special thanks to" list :)
Thank you too Gaming, but I don't wanna make a strategy game (so don't worry ;) ). The problem with making an adventure game is that I would be competing with Galaxy then :D so I don't know what to do.
How about some kind of race where each team has the same viewpoints and they have to buy their ships, parts, food, supplies, etc. and race to the finish objective...
Well, I'd like to make a game that takes more advantages of the new engine :)
I'll e-mail you and we can finish this discussion by e-mail ok? ;)
Gaming: If the game comes out right, you're gonna have your name in the thanks to list too, after all your game inspired me to make this ine :)
Sure, Jotaf.
Right now I'm adding an image class to it, that handles animated and static images in the same way.
Yeah I always did that :p basically it's a waste of CPU power because it increases the frame and then restores it :D
Oh in that case it's ok :)
