Canada so did not invent basketball.
The aztecs did. It was played in a sunken court, with two teams, one "ball" and two "baskets." The ball was A VERY LARGE rock passed by groups of men, due to its large size. The object was to put the Rock through a large Carved Hole protruding from either end of the court. The hole was sideways, compaired to our verticel baskets. If your team lost, you were killed, provided you did not die durring the game. It was custom group together to get the rock and press it over a single individual on the opposing team. SPLAT!
ONLY DIFFERENCE is that there is no dribbling and sideways baskets.
...Oh yeah, and that whole death thing.
This is really the origion of Basketball. look it up.
Today's Raab award for digging old threads goes to Alakazam!! Woohoo.. speech speech...
ps A show i saw on the Aztecs suggested that the ball itself was a human skull (of an enemy) and not a rock. :)
Yip, you're right. it sounds just like basketball, except for the fact that rocks don't bounce, so no dribbling, oh yeah, and they had a different number of players on the pitch, oh yeah and the baskets were in fact holes in the wall, and they probably didn';t have time-outs (or whatever they're called), and it needed multiple men to shift the bloody great rock, and you could kill the opposition... but yeah, you're right apart from that it's exactly the same  :D

The British might claim to have invented football, but no one really knows where it originated. The Chinese played shooting at a goal and dribbling games about 2,500 years ago, while other civilisations with a claim include the Japanese and Greeks. Football is the oldest British national sport and may date back to the Romans who invaded Britain over 2000 years ago, introducing a game called Haspartum.
I bet you spent the last hour looking for something that might contradict something I said. Interesting how you picked my quote rather than the several other posts saying the same thing
It is widly accepted general knowledge that the version of the game that is played today was invented by some cambridge students. That's it, no debates.
