You half constructed a spreadsheet. And if it was so good, why did you lose it? You should have forwarded it home and kept it (like me). I'll look through my stuff at home.
But anyway, it didn't include the special weapons, it was for the normal ones to help create the ini files.
From your point of view, what would you like to see me coding next?
It did have special weapons thus far - it included rust and epoxy warheads, and EMP as well as some other stuff I've forgotten.
I lost it because you requested it from me, I provided you with the information you wanted. I was not expected to archive it for later.
Its all academic now anyway.
assuming you mean that you dont want to make a start on diplomacy, I'd like to see that special project screen a little more interactive. Perhaps we can make a start on some projects.
Okey dokey - do we have a comprehensive list of projects?
No?
Care to come up with some?
I imagine I could chuck in the functionality of the project research, and then we can merely add in the projects via the scripts.
The vast majority of the projects are just going to provide benefits to the factions stats... i.e. +.02 to Industry and these can be added in very easily.
The ones that do special stuff (satellites etc) will need to be coded seperately, and they're going to be the ones that get peoples attention.
If you can focus your prodigous imagination on coming up with cool stuff like that, then I can add in the basic +to stats projects in off my own back...
To summarise the ones we have so far:
Spy Satellite Mark 1 (observes an X by X square which moves 5 squares right and 2 up every turn)
Spy Satellite Mark 2 (observes an X by X square which moves 5 squares right and 4 up every turn)
Spy Satellite Mark 3 (observes an X by X square which moves 5 squares right and 6 up every turn)
The Seismic... doesn't fit in the framework - how am I supposed to show the land, with no minerals etc - I only have explored (in view), explored (out of view) and unexplored to work with...
Add one more in: Explored (No Minerals), along with the neccarly code.
Gaming,
At this stage in development I'm unwilling to start making framework changes unless it's absolutely necessary.
It's not worth the rewrite for something so small...
It'd be akin to me asking Behemoth to redraw all the coastline squares because I wanted a little green in the sea for seaweed....
Behemoth,
Do you have the ability to post today, because I need to come up with (yet another) detailed list - but this time of all the things that will affect the diplomacy rating. Then I can check them off as I implement them....
PS :- I like the biological toxin thing - that's pretty cool.

I suppose I meant "explored(out of view)"Quote:

Then we can do that. Super.
movement into an enemies territory (+x)Quote:

As the starter...
movement out of enemies territory (-x)
movement through ememies territory [per square] (0.x)
where x = arbitrary value * might of unit, and applies to the player whos territory you are tramping through. half these values can be applied to this players allies
BTW, im at home sick today with a tummy bug. I feel ok, but I need to be within dashing distance of a toilet...
Thus, I'm not supposed to be frivolously squandering my time on the computer, I should go to bed.
Awwww, poor hairy guy, what's up with you? You want a big hug?
You could always lie in be and use the computer - I did when I had my back in bits. Was a little tricky getting comfy though, but at least you can lie on your back! :D
Stuart wrote me some maths which summarises the threat felt by unit placements, I'll see if I can find it, but that did the job admiribly!
Prioritised list:
KEEP THIS SAFE
Stick it in a text file on your desktop so you always know what you're doing next. This is subject to change in the next few posts based on the update you're about to give me....
Monster houses Progress is being made
Monsters Progress is apparently being made
Animated sensor buildings (couple of)
Animated reactor buildings (couple of)
Animated gun turrets (couple of)
Animated faction logos
Little mine pictures (for land and sea - varying amounts to denote how heavily mined things are) Progress apparently made - should be a simple job?!? Ensure on a white background for transparenterising
Mine pictures for the components screen Progress apparently made?
Missiles for the component screen (big nukes etc)
Ammo pictures (mostly kinetic, but some laser types for representative purposes)
More buildings (we ain't got many)
Some end of game screens (win/lose etc)
Interim screens for other players (faction eradicated)
Backdrop screen for each faction (to display the next player screen on top of)
Maybe think about some custom borders for each faction (around minimap etc - think of the protoss/terran/zerg game interfaces...)
Generic shield effect for buildings (animated if poss)
Air chassis
Sea chassis
Weather effects (let me know how you think this may be done)
Weapon effects (ranged weapons - let me know about how to do this)
Right, I'm back, just looking at your zips... oooo errrr!
Cool as potatos!!
Those shapes you sent are funky as hell, but you're going to be buggered animating them.
That circular one could be animated by swirling the colours around (and leaving the shape static). The rest you have no chance with....
I was thinking more along the lines of the race logos in Star Trek. You know, when they're chatting on the video link and when the call closes it briefly shows an animated logo of the race (Federation, Klingon etc).
I'll see what I can find.
PS - that new mined is fine - I'll send those on home now....
thats why i thought 3d if they were going to be animated. You'll have to help me out a bit on these then...
Contrary to popular opinion, i took lunch out (well watching tv), whilst I was waiting for countless pictures of communcations buildings and satellite dishes to download as inpiration for sensor buildings. I feel a Jodrell Bank coming on :D
this is cool as a monkey!
http://www.mpia-hd.mpg.de/suw/suw/Su...ell%20Bank.jpg
Cool as!
Could you zip and send me ALL the .ini's please?
Ta dude!
I dont know if mine is the most up to date version...
infiltration requires a cost column
Added now. Latest version attached...
Just remembered that all the components and buildings have to have a "might" value attached for calculating the faction might.
Oh dear - that's going to be messy.....
Is a built mech going to be merely the sum of its parts or greater than the sum of its parts?
And whilst I'm thinking about it, why not base the energy required to assemble a mech on the might of the mech?
interruption: the autopilot path is not visible at the bottom edge of the map window (where you've expanded the window)
A walking, talking mech with big guns is more valuable to an army than a bunch of rusting spares.Quote:

good idea :)Quote:

Yes, I realise that - how do we represent this...
And what are you waffling on about to do with the autopilot.
Take a screenprint (as I tell everyone else)
I somehow just managed to quit the launcher with the game still open (the launcher needs a better label than form1 too! ) when i quit the game, it spat me back out to windows at 800x600 (obvious really)...Whats going on?!
You can force quit the launcher using the task manager, but that'd just be gay.
When the programs running, the quit button should be disabled. If it's not - it's a bug.
its a bug then...:(
1) the only difference between these screenshots is that I scrolled the screen using the vertical scrollbar - notice the path disappears.
2) while running this for the screenshots, I requested 800*600 resolution cos it was the default and i couldnt be bothered faffing. The screenshots however, are 1024 * 768 ?!
vbf wouldnt let me post all 3 together...too big.
and 3...
I've also added a 'faction bonus' to the might tab which is:
1000 * (cumulative score of all faction benefits)
Whaddya think?
I'll check the screenshots in a second...
what?Quote:

I dont understand - you evaluate everything a faction has, then give it to them again, a thousandfold?!
No, sorry.
IndBen + ResBen + EnergyBen
Each of the factions core benefits.
Or maybe we should take an average of them all and times the final might figure by that?
The lines are mostly being drawn there my friend - it does look a little disjointed though...
PS - Sentience is running at 1024*768 in those screenshots.....
and why is this? does 800 X 600 not work properly?Quote:

It saves the last run resolution, so when you next run the launcher it automatically picks the last used resolution...
You understand now?Quote:

whichever it picked, it reported it as 800 * 600Quote:

no, what are you talking about? why are you giveing them an additional bonus? what is this in reference to?Quote:

It's just an additional way to record a factions might based on their core values. It was just a thought.
Each faction has their own strengths and weaknesses which can be altered using special projects. It was a way of measuring a factions might based on the modifiers they have...
i gotta go now. talk to you later.
Cool phrases:
Biomatter resequencer
Bioneural circuit (another name for organic circuitry really)
Causality loop ( a loop where the cause and affect cannot be determined - possible product of time travel)
temporal invariance (could be used to phase weaponry through shielding?)
Continuum distortion propulsion (warp speeeeeed)
Isomagnetic disintegrator (big gun)
Metagenic weaponry (wipe out them yetis!!!)
Oh right, cool, ummmm - bye?
sorry pal, back now.
I really like these. I think we should keep adding to them, eventually, we'll come up with something useful.Quote:

Cool and the gang. We can build on those later. :)
How are you getting on with graphics for me?
slowly making progress on a sensor building as requested. having a little trouble with illustrator though (it didnt want to save the last couple of hours work, so I cut it out and pasted it in a new document. its going to be a pain to glue back together later  )
I've just bought your present. Its cool, but I havent the faintest idea how im gonna wrap the *****in thing. heheh :p
anyway, the pub calls. speak to you soon.
quick request -
can you stick in printscreen functionality? I've got a mate whos testing on a laptop without a printscreen key.
Not got you owt at the mo. Sh*t. Ummm.... errrrr.......
Print screen's not so easy to implement you know - gonna be a bit....
Anyways, talk to you tomorrow...
Morning hairball, how ya feeling today?
You available for posting?
:D
Morning baldy :p
I'm feeling fresh as a pansy- no, a daisy. Definitely a daisy (phew!)
