Yo lol your comment hit home. I mean the 'Get a LIFE' part only, I don't struggle with exercise lol I can do 120 pushups myself ;)
I started programming on my dads old casio PB-7100 in about 2002, from there moved on to QBasic and eventually got VB6. I now mostly use VB.NET
I have also been learning Java, C#, C++
I reckon if you want to make big money:
You should keep your eyes WIDE open for what's hot, so that with your imagination(a programmers strong point) you can always be a few steps ahead
Keep up to date with the latest programming languages, and let your friends know that you're an expert programmer, so that they can let you know of any opportunities they hear of.
Otherwise what can you do besides be extraordinarily creative or find a part time job. hahaha :)

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
Hi, i'm Miguel from Argentina and i'm new around here.
I'm currently 25 years old, but i first started programming back in 1992 when i was 11. I found a book about algorithms in my school library and started programming with an old 286 mostly GWBasic and some DOS batch scripts. I never made a single buck (or should i say peso ;), but it was something fun to do in rainy days.
Now i'm a full time programmer and i work almost with any language it's needed.
PS: forgive me if my english is bad

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
You'll never make BIG money working for anyone else. You will only ever make big money working for your own company

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
I am a 16 year old programmer.
i know xml, html/xhtml, alot of Css (if you class them)... i know the basics of languages suchs as php, JS, c++, CGI/Perl and some other things but nothing really major in them areas, i have been trying to improve my CGI/perl and also C++ but i mainly program VB, at the moment its probably my best language.
i recently completed my first ever job for someone (which got me some money) but i mainly program my own things for fun.

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
I wonder how many young people who say they know a language, actually really "know" it. Its easy enough to pickup and change a few lines, but I mean write a full blown app. I thought I did at 18 when I started my first programming job after 4-5 years learning at home. Then I found out I knew nothing, it all went down the drain, I had to relearn, not how to use a language but how to code in a real environment, with other programmers and by spec. Its a very diffferent beast.

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
i always program from the start when making my own apps using the standards for the code such as indenting etc, the ones i mentioned i know are ones i have been working on for nething from 2-5 years :)

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
Im 13 nearly 14 and have been programming for 5 years. i started by wanting to write html (which i can now write) and found out that wasnt really programming so i asked someone i knew what i could use for programming. he told me about vb so i bought it. i now no lots of vb and i was creating 3 big projects at once well a small a medium and a large one. i was creating a little cd player (still on it lol) a little music player which can find all music files on your computer and an ebook where i wrote info on labels and created command buttons etc. i can use graphics and music controls and a lot more. im not making much money yet but im in the middle of a program which is already 15mb and growing which will soon be sold.

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
I'm 15 :D
I started programming almost 3 years ago in a code called robolab, which I used to program robots and enter them in robotic soccer competitions. Robolab is picture based, and fairly basic, so I learnt NQC (Not Quite C) a text based program, which is, as the title says, Not Quite C :P. Then I learnt the next version, NXC (Not exactly C). I learnt a bit of HTML and Javascript, both of which I found boring, then in IT classes earlier this year, we started learning Visual Basic, which I continued learning :D I then learnt MIRC scripting, but not a lot, and I think thats all...
So, thats my story! :afrog:

Too many.
And they all seem to hang around here...

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
I'm no longer a teenager so am banished from this thread but I started coding when I was a teenager... [babble]
Thanks for reading my post.

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
16 - Learning VB6 and and i'm starting to learn Java. Never been paid but I have written some small programs for people. Mainley for my own use. My school uses one of my bigger programs on all of its computers, (Can't say which one as the code is buried in here somewhere.) which is around 200 or so.

Re: How many teenaged programmers?
Java... excuse me while I go puke.
-
Re: How many teenaged programmers?
I have to learn it on my uni course so i decided to start early. That way I will be comfortable with it then and can put my attention to something like c++.
