Don't pin me on this. Only saying "interesting reading"
Put it in your own framework.
Some useful information
Where are those Aussies when we need to see a big dumb fish take the bait?Quote:

Or am I totally confused here for some reason ??
What the hell were you doing browsing a hippie, no-nuke Web site like that, D? (just kidding)
(still reading)
*posh voice* wanted to find some deliiicious herbal shampoo for me long gorgeous hair, darling.
:)
Whoops. Maybe I was mistaken in thinking that it was the Aussies that were bragging about their SAS. I think I'm in need of informing.Quote:

LOL! Where is it that you wave your peace flag, anyway?Quote:

There are many more publications, if not actually online, that back up my statements regarding the bomb.
*posh voice* I wave my rainbow coloured flag in me garden in the delightful town of Antwerp, Belgium. A doll of a city, darling, a must see
:D
The one world nuclear disarmarment site says:
I think what they meant to say was "it is difficult to imagine why a second one should have been needed on August 9."Quote:
The Hiroshima bomb was dropped on 6 August. The message to the Japanese must have been unmistakable and it is difficult to imagine why a second one should have been used on August 9.
August 6 - Hiroshima
August 9 - Nagasaki
August 10 - The Japanese publicly broadcast an offer of surrender.
Now that's what I call bad timing on the part of the Japanese.
Maybe now you understand why my problem lies with the American Foreign policy and not with the american people themselves ?
Antwerp....Antwerp....wasn't that the "Bridge to Far" thingie or am I confusing my "John Wayne saves the world" movies with something else ???Quote:

And yes, like any good American, I get 99% of what I know from the movies.
:p
That was Arnhem and it was in the Netherlands if you must know.
There aren't bridges in Antwerp as far as I know. There will be one though. It is planned for construction and with a bit of luck we'll have it in 2050 :D
I appreciate the fact that you can distinguish between the two, but I'm afraid that it would take quite a bit more than a couple quotes from Churchill, Montgomery and Eisenhower to change my mind. It's a good start though, but I also wonder if Monty was pissed that it wasn't the British and that Eisenhower migh have been also a bit swayed by political leanings against Truman and the Democratic administration.Quote:

Pretty powerful people to have on your side, though.
The aussies have the Australian SAS, some of whom are trained by the SASQuote:

He's not at all saying we shouldn't have used it. Churchill's very next sentence could easily have been that that the atomic bomb certainly hastened the fate of Japan.Quote:
"It would be a mistake to suppose that the fate of Japan was settled by the atomic bomb. Her defeat was certain before the first bomb fell." (UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill.)
With this somewhat ambiguous statement the only quote attributed to Churchill, I think we might also be seeing a pattern forming of the site creator as someone who finds nothing wrong with taking a single quote and trying to make it look as if this great figure from history supports their agenda. (i.e. where is the quote where Churchill says that the American use of the atomic bomb was unneccessary?)
I would imagine it's all politically inspired but you can't tell me that such high ranked officers and highly acclaimed scientist only thought political can you ? There was probably a great deal of military analysis and the fear of the consequences of using such devices.
One cannot deny that the use of the bomb was a political move rather than a military decision. In all probability both.
It fired off the cold war in any case though.
Help me understand why I wasn't surprised to see the same organization that wants to lambast the U.S. for bombing Japanese agression into surrender is also gleefully supportive of women who abort live human fetuses?Quote:
OneWorld US: Spotlight shines on reproductive rights.
Feminists expressed concern yesterday over the fate of the 29-year old Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision protecting abortion rights under the Bush administration. The same negative factors influence the Gag Rule governing foreign aid for women's health. From: OneWorld US.
I said "don't pin it on me", I only provide the links.
If they're the same organisation it's your right to doubt them.
There are many other links and/or books that point to the same timeline.
I'm not going to look them all up here, google them yourself ;)
I think the Russian desire to make every man on Earth a subject of the Communist Party was what really started the cold war. There were a few years after WWII that most of the U.S. was ambivalent or at least cautious about the U.S.S.R. It was only after their single-minded mission to absorb every country they could became undeniable that the cold war was begun.Quote:

Most historians will tell you that it was when the Communists had to put up a wall to keep the citizens of East Berlin from fleeing into West Berlin that the cold war truly started.
Probably a mixture of both. We both see it our ways. There are enough books out there that deal with WW2 and it's consequences.
My view on a host of decisions the American government made in their foreign policy (now and in the past) remains unchanged.
I'm always a bit cautious when I hear a president of the US use big words while discussing F.P. It's an outsider thing really.
Not all of us agree with whatever the US decides.
Anyway, I thought this was going to be a thread about the French trading poor McDonald in for a fictional Frank :D
As long as you bring your gripes in a thoughtful manner instead of an excuse to bash the evil Americans, I'm always going to be keen to hear what you have to say.
Bollocks! You Americans are too dumb to have an intelligent argument with! Likely as not you'll just whip out an AK-47 and blow us all away...:rolleyes:Quote:

As a matter of fact, prior to Sep 11, (or maybe a little after...hmmmm??) the Pommie SAS were out here getting Aussie SAS training in harsh climate missions.Quote:

The British SAS is still the best though, then the Aussies....the SEALS are like number 31 or something - even the Spear-wielding tribesmen of Eastern Congo ranked higher...
Right here baby, but I'd have to say it's really you and that poof tennisboy taking the bait though. It's just stupid when he argues, I'm bored with him now - you're still fun though. :DQuote:

I post some crap about atomic bombs and Einstein being a big poof and look what happens, I get you all riled up over WWII.
This is great....
I'm wondering what I should provoke you all on now...
I suppose I could do that, but where would the fun be? :DQuote:

Even if it was a joke, it's not much different from the other biased things you've said.
Because that was the joke, you twit.
Have a read of the stuff he's posted before you start babbling on about dobbing, especially after you're the one who keeps bringing up 'free speech' and 'free country'...
We're both taking digs at each other, get over it you infant.
Thanks, that'll help my response score - now you need your swimsuit entry...:pQuote:

You are STUPID... I've read the past posts, I don't see the slightest indication that mikey is JOKING with you...
He seems pretty pissed off to me that you're constantly bashing Americans and frankly I am also...
And your above response to mikey noting Einstein was not even related to the question. If it is, in some vague way, prove me wrong.
You obviously are having trouble grasping sarcasm and other aspects of general humour, so just bugger off, and stop your whining. I'm getting sick of proving you wrong, just about everyone in here has had a go at you, but you don't get it do you?
Let's wait for mikey to respond.Quote:
