But if you read the link the "5" is misleading. The US is actually 35th.
From the link:
The rate of alcoholism varies significantly among nations. While it might stand to reason that rates of alcoholism would correlate closely to overall alcohol consumption per country or possibly with drinking age by country, these correlations are not always present. For example, although consumption varies by state, Americans on average consume 9.9 liters of pure alcohol per capita annually (WHO, 2020), the equivalent of imbibing 33.0 handles (1,716.8 fluid ounces/50.75 liters) of vodka per person per year. This means that the U.S., despite being 5th on the list of countries with the highest rates of alcoholism, was only 35th on the list of countries with the highest alcohol consumption per capita in 2019 (CIA). The most recent data regarding alcoholism rates in each country was compiled by the World Health Organization, which recorded the percentage of males and females 15 years and above with alcohol use disorders in
-
Re: Post election prediction
I'm not sure whether that counts as misleading or not. It certainly does change the interpretation, as we aren't the fifth most drunken country, but I'm still surprised at that 5th for alcoholism. I suppose that, taken together, it could mean we are high on the list of hypochondria, diagnosis of alcoholism, or treatment for alcoholism.
-
Re: Post election prediction
Those stats are interesting.
The US isn't in the top 10 for men but is number 1 for women. Now we know who the trouble makers are. lol

I think there's a good chance this is affecting the numbers.
I was surprised the South Korea was so high on the list. Not that I know much about South Korea, just not the perception I had.

Buh you clearly insulted me as usual so I will not talk to you for one post. Unless the post is something magnificent.
A question here. We see a lot of data on US been a "fat" country. And that is nothing to be laughed about. Is that correct?
By my visit...I don't remember :D
My latest example was at the airport here, we had an office eating Friday and we ordered from the nearby airport (hopefully we will get the heck out of this distant area soon) fast fooderianrty.
I can't recall what it was, possible burger king as we only got one in Athens and it's an "American" shop, meaning high portions double refreshment for an xtra buck and so on.
Point is the meal was so much I could not finish half of it. It's like pushing you to buy "garbage" at a cheap price to get fat and addicted. Now once every 2 weeks or so, I don't mind to be a garbageer but as I'm thin due to my metabolism, I don't really crave food that much but others may get caught in that eating garbage marathon. I have a few example in my circle.
....And now we all know what comes next:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...y_obesity_rate
You are 13 there but is that accurate, give or take by your whereabouts? Greece been 38, hmm, maybe maybe not , probably down the list since we got that depression and people limit the extra food for other needs such electricity and water. Also I don't really trust WHO, that bunch of idiot fakevid arsmolkks.

Unfortunately, so many countries are catching, or passing, us in that regard that I'm not sure we count, anymore.

I don't think the reason is to make people get fat, exactly. I think the reason is to make money. Still, you're essentially right. It has often been pointed out in the US, that cheap food is fattening, and rightly could be called "garbage". Good food is available, but often not in poor areas, and it costs more. Eating isn't expensive, but eating well can be.
I never know about those lists, but that one is probably about right. We shouldn't be #1 on that list, because we have lots of rich, fatty, foods, but we also have a whole lot of exercise culture, which should push us down the list a bit. So...#15 seems reasonable, especially with other countries passing us, as they do.
On the other hand, Trump lies about his weight, too, so perhaps we'll suddenly get thinner by following his example.

Yea sure. Thing is, I've seen this kind of disturbing thing on the left too often to the point I don't even care anymore if some are false flags. I see something like that, I'm running with it.

So would you also share and run with it if it was falsely claiming someone from the right was a paedophile?

How come it is only an issue when someone is accused of being on the "right", you never seem to have an issue if someone, including yourself, accuses someone of being "left"?

I said no such thing. I just shared something I found on social media that was shared by someone else. It's really up to you how you want to interpret it. You called it out as a false flag and I say fair enough.

Oh the far right is just as bad but I won't waste my time because everyone already knows the far right is evil and it's mostly still in the fringes where it belongs. However, the far left is just as evil but it they are better at dressing up it as virtue in my opinion. This is why I have an issue with the left.
BTW when I say far right, I don't mean Donald Trump, Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan etc. They are centrists as far as I'm concerned. I mean David Duke, Andrew Anglin etc. They guys are absolutely disgusting and I despise them just as much as any leftist.
-
Re: Post election prediction
You've set yourself up for a quip, but I'll pass on it.
I don't have a problem with that. I've always felt that the far left and the far right have nearly met. It's more of a horseshoe than a straight line, with the tips being closer to each other than to the middle. I don't agree with where you think the center is, but that's fine.

The term "minor attracted person" is a thing that came out of the left and there is a small element within the wider progressive movement that seeks to normalize it by taking advantage of the left's desire to present themselves as virtuous. This isn't to say that all of the left are pedophiles. It's to say that the left is ripe for infiltration by them which is already under way.
They cannot infiltrate the right or the center with these ideas as they will get rejected right away. However, the moral relativism of the left makes the left a welcoming home for a lot of, shall we say, distasteful ideas.

I don't think it came out of the left. The first I heard about it was in Florida, though I don't know where the group they were talking about was located. It sounded like Florida.
The right is far more easily ripe for infiltration in that regard, especially the religious right. They have a tendency towards top down authoritarianism and protecting the 'leaders'. Sex scandals, especially child sex scandals, in right wing institutions are so common as to be nearly expected. It's hard to find such an institution that doesn't have a few. If you get to more fundamentalist groups, it's sometimes part of doctrine, such as the Mormon fundamentalists found in parts of the west (both US and Canada).
-
Re: Post election prediction
None of which answered the question of who you were trying to demonise as paedophiles but hey ho.
Quote:

Nope, it came from online paedophile groups who were trying to legitimise themselves and the Left has pushed back on it just as hard as you or anyone else. In particular the LGBTQ community pushed back when they tried to add it to their acronym. It has been adopted by some elements of academia in an attempt to acknowledge that treatment rather than punishment may be a better course to preventing it but never in an attempt to approve of the behaviour. The vast majority of the left and the LGBTQ community disagrees with even that acknowledgement though.
Of course, if you hadn't got yourself into a position where you believe that anything that disagrees with your prejudices should be ignored you could have looked this up.

I'm not sure I buy this either. There are many reasons why but I don't think it would be fruitful to get into that either.

That's a very true observation, let's not forget about the Boy Scouts(though their not far right). Though, I don't think pedophilia has anything to do with right/left.

I was thinking of the Boy Scouts, but also a large number of religious organizations. For some reason, whenever you get a patriarchal groups with a 'protect the leaders' ethos, you always seem to end up with sex abuse.

Maybe it's because sex abuse can't continue long term without that type of environment. So these are the groups the predators gravitate to.

France down.
Mega WOKEr Macron is probably going bye bye.
-
Re: Post election prediction
No, Macron is not the PM. The government fell, which means the PM had to resign, but Macron is the president, and will not be up for election for a while, yet. And at that time, he probably will lose. It's not just that he's unpopular, but the French change their president with every election.
-
Re: Post election prediction
It's Barnier (a conservative - centre right) who has been forced to step down via a vote of Non Confidence. Macron is being put under pressure to resign, though.
From what I can gather the pressure, both on Barnier and Macron, is mostly coming from the Far Right under LePenn. She is being investigated embezzling public funds and if she is found guilty she will be ineligible for public office 4 years. Her followers are hoping they can force Macron out and trigger a new Presidential contest (which she has a a not insignificant chance of winning) before that happens. From what I can gather she probably wouldn't win (she not first in the polls) but I said that about Trump so reach your own conclusions.
I don't think Macron can be forced to resign as no mechanism exists but public pressure could be enough.
^That's just stuff I could glean from some quick searches and what I've seen on the news so I can't speak to it's accuracy.

Syria's not a member of NATO so NATO can have no involvement. It's possible various members of NATO could intervene on an individual basis but not under the auspices NATO.
Further, NATO members aren't typically supportive of the Assad regime due to it's frequent human rights violations and the fact that it's basically a Russian puppet. On the whole they're not big fans of the rebels either who sprung out of Isis among other groups - they've tried to distance themselves since but there are a lot of suspicions that that's largely a fig leaf. So, given that they don't much like either side, why do you think they would get involved?
I can perhaps see Turkey getting involved as they're more directly affected on their Southern border although I don't know on which side. They sure don't like Assad but Kurdish rebels are one of the main constituents of the current rebel group and Turkey's got it's own problems with them.

Just because a member of NATO is at war with a country doesn't mean NATO is. This is a pretty fundamental thing. Being a member of NATO does mean NATO is to blame for what you do.

I am starting to worry about what these people Trump is appointing are going to do. I especially don't like Mush being so deeply involved. Johnson is talking about wanting to cut 75% of government agencies. Not that I'm against cutting waste but this sounds more like a way to deregulate corporate America.
https://www.the-independent.com/news...-b2659519.html
Deregulation sound like a good thing but corporate America has shown over and over again that without oversight they exploit the people and planet. I still remember the financial crisis of 2008 and more recently the Boeing 737 Max disasters. But those just a couple that come to mind, there is a long history of exploitation.
Several of the other picks worry me just because they have no qualification for the job. The Rfk Jr. appointment and many others.
So far it's all just talk but I'm glad I live in Ca.

I'm grabbing that quote just to preserve it.
What's going to happen in a bit over a month? Well, it might be total pandemonium. If not, then it will at least be partial pandemonium. Those who expect to see a dumpster fire...well, they might get it. But those who believe they know what will happen are going to have to change their expectations after the fact to be whatever does happen, or else they'll be confused/disappointed.

Not one of those conflicts was engaged under the auspice of NATO.
Yugoslavia - the UN
Afghanistan - US led coalition
Kuwait - the UN
Iraq - US led "Coalition of the willing"
Ukraine - nobody
Cypress - Only Britain got involved in the actual fighting but the UN monitored the subsequently agreed border
Turkey - not sure what you're referring to unless their invasion of Cypress, in which case see above
I think you could legitimately ask why the UN hasn't involved itself in Syria (beyond issuing condemnations of Assad) and I think you could similarly ask why they haven't done more in Ukraine but NATO isn't relevant.
