I said it was mostly complete, but I really meant that it was about 50-75% complete (that is mostly...). It still needs work, but currently I am working on the item lists, so I don't have the time to work much on the engine.
And I knew that the error would occor (as all the code needs to be copied into a module...).
The code should be heavily enough documented to allow someone else to finish it up.

Well, someone on the team should be able to. You may wish to look over the code to see the basics of the tile engine, as you may see some things that may not be to your liking.
On the note of the items, I have gotten most of the weapons setup with their stats. I also decided to use a thesaurus to look up some basic items and see if I could find good names for new unquie items, now I wish I wouldn't have, as I got 50+ responces, most of which I have never seen before. Some of the ones listed are from other langues (most noticablly to me was sombrero, which is spanish for hat...).

It says it missing when I open the engine project:confused:
don't use ocx!! They only make problems and there might be some copyright problems too.
Easy solution: Wait and I will get a new copy posted up.
Fast solution: Remove the dependency from the project file, copy the code from the form to a module, etc, etc, etc...
The control was an a thing that I placed in by accident (I am used to using it in other projects).

well I took a look at the code.
it does not seem like some kind of engine yet, but just a setup of a DX framework. Well I do not want to criticize on that I was just wondering since I believe to have read something about using DX8 earlier... are you going to use DX7 instead?
Currently the code can has the code to draw the map out. It still needs a lot of work, but as I have been busy working on the items, I haven't had time to do much work on it.
I don't belive we really decided, but as I know more Dx7, I decided to go with Dx7.
Flame, you may wish to make the documents HTML files (if you want, I can do it, even though I will be busy working on the items still...).
Gameing, i cant get the engine to work. says it needs a sub main or something. ACKKKKKKKKKKK how come every code i download dosent work :(
The code isn't finished, it needs a good amount of work. Someone needs to make the functions to draw the characters/monsters/NPCs/buildings/etc.
Also, what size of tiles/players are we going to use?

hm well I proposed to use DX7 anyways, you can realize lightingeffects there too.
I know, I plan to reduce it a little. When I created it it was between 11 and midnight...

but I still think reducing wouldn't be a bad Idea...
I woun't be able to do much for the developement of the game or reducing the size of thr picture anytime soon, as the computer I normally use is messed up. And every other computer that I have acess to isn't working or is working VERY slowly :(. The computer I am currently using took around 30 seconds to load up IE (and it is a P3 1G).
Ill do it, itll just take awhile...
what are you going to do flame?
Oh and about the engine, what is a good way to get the tiles to come out in an orderly fashion so the map makes sense? Seeing as how I've never made an engine, I dunno where to store how the map looks and how to read the data in the proper way....kinda stumped :eek: :D :p :confused:

one of the cool things about this forum is the good behaviour in here.. and I am sure you guys can be pretty helpful for each other if you get this project here rolling...

2. Have you specified any tools you might need to develop for the development of the game (if you do it's a good way to start and provide the work to more people on the team)

since your world is probably going to be huge I would recommend to make more files with coordinates. The user should always have the four closest pieces of the map loaded...
each piece would consist of a certain number of tiles again and look something like
Type tMap
map(x,y) as long
X as long
Y as long
end type
well there will be several more entries in the end but that should do for the begining...
I think that we should split the map into areas, then when a player always has the area s/he is currently in downloaded, and any other area s/he downloads the new area. In this way, we can limit the amount of transfere needed for the map. Download could also refere to load.
We may also wish to attempt to find a way to prevent a new player (or an old player on a new character) from just printing out a map, and skipping any unneeded areas.
will player position and stats be stored on a server we have or on the players comp? if on a server we would have then this would prevent tampering and the stats would just be loaded off the server
I think we should store them on the server.
Just thought that I would let you guys know that I have gotten a new harddrive for my computer, so I will be able to begin work on the game again.
The reason I got a new one, was beacuse my old one went dead, and sience it was under warrenty I got the same size one for free. Appox. 30 GB.
Hi all, nice to see that the project is still under development!
But can anyone tell me what you've done so far and what you've decided to do now? As I heard it's gonna use DDraw but what about the whole rest? Will you use WinSock, do people connect to a account server first, can you spread the maps over different servers or whatever... Can anyone conclude this thread?
I could (although I would leave out some parts). I woun't though, as I am in a hurry...
