The phrase "what goes around comes around" have never sounded so true when I regard this whole deal of bickering.

Imagine a country that trained Mujahedin, supplied them weapons and funded them with money they got from the opium trade so that these poor fighters could combat the russians. Then it abandoned the afghanis, left them in a power vacuum and civil war.
And all this time a certain Saudi named O.B.L. was a dear friend.
That same country funded a certain S.H. in I. to fight in Iran and then turned their backs on him, fought him when their oil interests were under attack and then embargoed his people resulting in the death of at least 1000 children a year due to lack of medicine.
Add to that sheet involvement in middle-american politics, Sudan and a whole host of other countries.

Of course, any reasonable person would never dream to assume that this country is America.

In case you can't be bothered to read any of them, the first article refers to a fun-run and a ball being held in NY to raise funds for the Real IRA - the people responsible for all the other attacks I've mentioned here. I'll also give you a small synopsis of what they've been up to recently (taken from the last news article above):

• January 2001 - a massive roadside bomb was discovered in Armagh. It was packed with more than 1,000lbs of explosives and was designed to ambush the security forces.
• January 2001 - a so-called Mark 15 mortar bomb was launched at the sleeping quarters of an army base in Londonderry. It failed to detonate but came very close to doing so. Had it exploded the consequences would have been devastating.
• March 2001 - a car bomb exploded outside the BBC.
• June 2001 - two police officers were shot and wounded outside a polling station in Draperstown in County Londonderry.
• July 2001 - attacks on security bases at Castlewellan in County Down and at Lurgan in County Armagh.
• August 2001 - a bomb is placed at Northern Ireland's main airport.
• August 2001 - a car-bomb attack in Ealing in west London injures a number of people.
• November 2001 - Bomb blast in Birmingham.

Firstly, I would like to apologise to Mikeycorn he is now producing some well thought out arguments. Sorry. But Justin is still being a bit of a child. I know I am not debating the point here but these are just my opinions.

As for the EU thing, I don't think the point was discussed or decided, but the European Court, when it creates a Law the entire EU (which does have free trade between States/Countries you know) has to comply within a certain time scale. Even if it goes against any law currently in existance in that country. Also if these time scales are no adherred to hefty fines and penalties will be enforced. Police and/or troops would not be used because we don't believe in doing things that way. The highest court anyone can appeal to is the EU court and their word is final. No more appealing after that point.

I am in no way anti-american. Anti-french maybe but that's understandable. But I like America, I would love to visit, not to live, maybe live in Canada. But there are quite a few ******s in the US. Probably proportionally it is the same as UK but there are a damn sight more than you in US than UK so it stands out more.

And also you cannot deny that because the US has not made supplying terrorist groups with money illegal, they are in some way advocating it. I am not saying and I would like to stress this fact, that the US is supplying money to the IRA but is allowing it's citizens to continue to do so. Which should be wrong.

If they could cut off this major part of the funding to these people (who are also funded by drug-running, prostitution rings, protection rackets, and, at one point, Libya), it would make it harder for them to operate. Possibly as important as that, though, making it illegal would show us that you as a nation do actually give a ****. At the moment it's not terribly clear.

It's pretty hard to cut off funding. They can prevent those fund-raising meetings like the ones mentioned above but they can't prevent people from, e.g., traveling over to Ireland and giving the guys money, etc...in those little BUCKETS outside the pubs...

I really don't know what to tell you, I don't think it's right either, but it's a select few who are the root of this problem and people like rjlohan think ALL Americans are evil.

The japanese apologised, the russians did, the germans did, even the italians did. Where is the american apology for the mistakes they made in the war ?

The central point is that the american government isn't always as clear and levelheaded as we would like them to be about decisions regarding America's foreign policy, now and in the past. There is a lot of blood on the hands of that government.
Same goes for many governments around the world but it just happens that America is economically and politically a very major player and therefore always in the spotlight.
I do not always agree with their conduct. Can I ? Am I allowed to as a free thinking being ? Thank you so much.
