Sending text messages to cellular phones

I need to write a simple program that sends text messages to cellular phones using the Internet. Please tell me how this can be done.

Hi there,

Most phones that recieve messages also have an email address that you can use to directly send to ie: ([email protected]). I say just make a program that accepts an email and sends it out just like any other email.
