hey,
i recently installed ATA66 PCI card onto my comp, and i was expecting it to be faster than my existing configuration...
to my surprise using ATA66 is actualy SLOWER than before, any ideas why? i;m using this special cable and everything.
ex: it takes forever to load IE after PCI card....

Any special drivers needed?
i did install drivers that came with the card, and i also completed this article from MS
i'm really lost in this one...
Theoretically, you shouldn't even need the drivers...
how old is your computer? and in order for the ATA/66 to work your HD has to support it.Quote:

it's not that old:
P3-450
300Mb RAM
40GB HD (bought it couple months ago) - it supports ATA100!!!
yeah but is the mother board old, because it should already be at ATA/66 on the board itself.
I've got a Promise UDMA 66 card (my mobo only supports 33 without it). HDD is a 66 IBM Deskstar GXP. Computer work a lot faster with the card!

All PCI/ISA cards use drivers, but they might be built into windows.Quote:

Well, it was some years ago, but from what I remember, all I did was plug the card in and attach the HDD to it using the supplied 80-pin cable. The BIOS was quite happy reading from the HDD straight away, a screen comes up everytime you boot saying it's been found and there is a HDD attched to slot 1 etc etc.
When in Windows, it said it had found an IDE Controller, inserted the supplied driver disk, and everything was fine.
I can't go into any more detail because that was it, I've only had a problem with it once before when it said "Could not find Operating System" or something like that, which was remedied by a reboot.

mine seems to be working fine (reads/writes) but it is a bit slower than before...... unless my MB supports ATA100 and i didn't know.... :eek:
i dont know if that's possible..... i bought it almost 2 years ago....:confused:

Well, maybe the mobo was already 66, so putting in the card slowed it...it's probably slower than a true 66 moboQuote:
