Can anyone tell me what sort or system is used by websites to allow registered users access to a site. Come to think of it, maybe the vb-world administrators could help me here!
I have developed a "web based" app (ruuning our intranet) which requires restricted access to users.
At the moment I am using an ASP login screen which prompts for a username and password these are then passed to to a DLL running on the server which in turn querys an access database for verification.
The dll then passes back a code which is interpeted in the ASP and a set of hyperlinks are generated
Is using a DLL and an Access database a satisfactory system?
How do other sites control access?

I think most sites do it like that, problem is that most 'big' sites have special accounts with the isp so that they can have more access. Cause i don't think my isp is willing to register my dll on his machine(who knows what crazy stuff it could do on there machine).
