The Speed thread

Ok what makes me laugh is the American police chase Tv programs when they chase some criminal down like a hundred lane highway and are shocked thats he's doing 90mph. Over here in Blightly I would say that you can do 90 on most dual-carridge ways / motor ways and still have people peel past.

What I want to know is how far have you pushed your car???

I managed an indicated 145 mph / 233 kph ( that was with a hill and on a empty dual-carridge way)

And the fastest I have ever gone in a car was 150 in a TVR Griff around castle comb race track.

fasted I've ever taken a car is 125mph in a Golf VR6. Fastest i've ever been in , is in my bosses Lexus Aristo at 170mph down the M23 :eek: small car of a 3 1/2 litre twin turbo engine :)

I take it the Lexus isn't cheap, I am after a new car at the moment and it needs to be quick to feed the need.... the need for speed.

you can't actually buy this model in the uk, he got it imported from japan on gray import. I think he only payed about 30k for it. not sure though :)

You could also take into account the context of the speeding

Doing 95 mph on the A48? between Gloucester and Chepstow in a 6 axle 38 tonne articulated lorry is pretty exhilarating. :)

(The legal limit is 40 mph on single carriageway roads for HGVs)

Only 30k, I'll have two incase one gets dirty.

I have seen Lexus Soarers (another import) for under 6k, they have a V6 twin turbo as well, but I can't find any stats on em..

My M8s ride R1's and the like, they always tare-arsing around, he mangaged around 150 before his bottle went. I would love a bike but I don't think that I could be trusted on it. I would last about 2 weeks before the police would have to scrape me off the road;)

I've never been caught speeding and I tend to be more careful these days...

I used to blast along this one road (30 mph limit) every morning at about 80 mph (on a Kawasaki GPZ600R). One day I was just overtaking a cyclist when I noticed police standing at the side of the road with a radar gun. I slowed down as fast as possible but they pulled me over anyway. They were extremely pissed off; the radar gun said 10mph - the speed of the cyclist I was overtaking!

I'm not especially proud of the 30/40's, I shouldn't have done it and neither should anyone else.

I'm generally pretty conscious of the 30/40 limits, keep the speed down to the limit in residential areas and the like. Not really on main roads though.

Fastest I've managed in my... *strains to remember* ... approximately 2 months of fully-licensed driving experience is 105 (woo, speedy) which isn't all that bad considering it's a G-reg 1. litre Polo. The speedo only goes up to a hundred :)

150mph in the boss' Mercedes SLK down a dual carriageway.

You could hear the car wanted more speed, but we just wouldnt supply. It had to settle for raw meat.

Don't get me wrong, I like driving fast, however I rarely drive fast in anything other than dual-caridge way motor way, these days it is safer that way with so many damned gatso's!

Mark - my dad has been driving for 30 odd years now, mostly delivering bricks to the south east region. SOme of the stories that he comes back with about other drivers :D

I just bought a nice new limited edition Rover 200 Automatic

Bought an automatic because I'm a lazy Bas**rd and getting on a bit now. The old kegs arn't what they used to be:rolleyes:

I can't stand the these kids who wheel spin at the lights. Yeah pal we all know you can bald your tires.

I'm not an overly fast driver (I keep to the 30/40 limits but usually go at about 80 in national limits)...but it's the way I drive that looks scary :D

For example, tiny road in Malvern, parked cars on one side. Closing speed of 70 with a van coming the other way, I burned through the gap with 4 inches on either side :)

That sort of gap that's so tight you just close your eyes and hope for the best

My sister was not impressed, and neither was my mum (her car :D)
