Most of them use the same internal engine (VOBDec or something).
FlaskMPEG.
rips DVD to a bunch of diff formats (mpeg, avi a few others, i cant remember now)
i forgot the site for FlaskMPEG but if you search for it you should be able to find it pretty quickly
has some mroe DVD ripping stuff
At maximum quality (hey, if I'm getting a DVD I'm not sacraficing anything!) it took 1.5 DAYS to convert to MPEG. And then the audio track was French-dubbed.
Really? Took about 30 minutes for me to rip a DVD :)
Not ripping, FlasKing. It takes me about 25 min to just rip.
Why did you need to flask it? I just ripped the .vob files and dragged them onto media player :)
What you do is recreate the DVD directory tree and map a drive letter to the root of it. Then you can just play the DVD straight off your hard drive using XingDVD (WinDVD sucks and PowerDVD doesn't like hard drive playing).
I have WinDVD but only because it came with my drive...it's not too bad though :)
Thanks everyone. Now, i have a couple more questions. After i rip this DVD, it will be in DivX format right? So, all i need to play it is the DivX codec? Now, do i need a special media player, or can i do it out of windows media player and WinDVD?
Thanks everyone
No...after you rip it (copy and DeCSS it) you'll be able to play it off your hard drive. It doesn't convert it to DivX for you. *sigh* Here we go:
- Copy the entire VIDEO_TS directory to a directory on your hard drive that is also called VIDEO_TS
- DeCSS it with the tool of your choice. I used to use SmartRipper but I found another one. I don't remember the name, but I have it on a CD somewhere.
- Type this command into a DOS prompt:
Of course, if L: is taken, pick a drive letter that isn't. Also, this assumes that the DVD was ripped to c:\DVDs\VIDEO_TS. So if it wasn't, change the directory to the directory one level up from the VIDEO_TS directoryCode:subst L: c:\DVDs\
- Fire up XingDVD (if you try hard enough, you can find a download). WinDVD doesn't like ripped DVDs, and PowerDVD throws up when it tries to read a ripped DVD. XingDVD playback has always been perfect, with just slight wavering in the playback
- From the Xing menu, click File > Play DVD (do not click the play button!). Then watch the magic. :)
*end sigh* Bring on the flood of questions!
BTW, this preserves the menu system, subtitles, captions, audio tracks, etc. It is exactly like you're playing the DVD! Only your hard drive light will flicker like hell. :D
if you have it converted to a mpeg format, you can make it into a VCD.
And lose a sh**load of quality. Video CDs suck compared to DVDs. And then you destroy the menuing system, different audio tracks, "extra" (like behind the scenes) features, etc. That why it is best to rip it. But it eats up a huge chunk of your drive. Your pick.
hey, filburt1, how do I remove drive L if you make it, like after your done with it and you no longer what it?? (still don't know all that dos stuff :() btw...I have two hard drives, C and D and I tryed it with D and made L for that files, and now I don't want that drive L
subst l: /u, I think. Type subst /? to find out.
ok, I tryed it with the question mark (?) and it was subst /d L: *edited* or subst L: /d *end editing* for removeing it...thanks....now I'm learning something new :D
I forgot because I believe rebooting deletes the mapping. Are you just curious about Subst, or are you actually *gasp* following my steps to rip a DVD?
There's alot of codes I don't know that's in dos, so I was curious about it and learned something new. Plus I alreadly know how to rip DVDs into .avi or .mpg (I have an anime movie that I ripped called "Tenchi The Movie 2, Daughter of Darkness", if you want, you can connect to my ftp server to look for at, the ftp server is ftp://[email protected] and please note that this ftp user name and password well only work tell 4:00 am PST, after that, you can go to ftp://65.0.232.5 or let me make one for you)
k, problem. i put in the DVD and fire up smartripper, and it says some of the files are locked. What do i do?
ok, i figured that out, but i can't figure out how to actually start the ripping in smart ripper.
