A lot of talented people use drugs, and it's probably the reason why they are talented, but thats no reason to take drugs.
I agree. I guess they were talanted to begin with. While it might help with the creative process i think it will not help in the short term memory department.
If they could reproduce only the positive effects of a drug we could have practical use it
The question is, is it sensible to take drugs to get the benefits if it costs you the bad side of drugs?
Thats the current issue yes. What do you value in life?
The drugs don't work, they just make you worse. Hey - that sounds like it would make a good lyric for a song ;)
Mmm, back to the top methinks. Before another "Are drugs good/bad" debate, the original question, which was relevant to marijuana only, is much more interesting.Quote:

As a self-confessed dopehead, I do get creative on my ass, but not when programming. As for learning about programming, I suspect it would be wise to avoid it. I do a lot of websites and photoshop print files when I'm stoned, mostly successfully. But I did learn photoshop 5 years ago when I was sober ;)
Personally I found that smoking dope helped with learning when in Uni but after that I stopped because there was no point as the thrill had gone.. But as for learning out of uni, I don't know.
I read a study where people subjected to large doses of marijuana on a daily basis over a 6 month period, showed a significant reduction in short term memory even 5 years after stopping smoking.
Personally I find I can barely remember what happened a minute ago, let alone learn anything.
You see, the term "large doses" needs to be clarified by the researchers in a statement like that. I have been smoking marijuana every day for the last 4 years, and have been working in possibly the most stressful environment this side of Stressville, Illinois. I certainly haven't suffered any noticable memory loss. In fact, my career has gone from strength to stregth.Quote:

Now, I, and all habitual smokers like me tend to vary between 1 and 5 joints a night. Does this fall into the "large dose" category?
But, agin, back to the top, the idea of using cannibis as an aid to creativity. This is a far more interesting subject than the advantages/diadvantages of marajuana.
As Bill Hicks once said (and I quote vvvvv loosly):
If it wasn't for mary jane, we wouldn't have The Beatles setting new musical standards still emulated in music today, The Stones, The Beach Boys, Hendrix, the Doors.
It'd be a world of Vanilla Ice...
And could you pass the bong back Harry, thats the third toke your done in five minutes.;)Quote:

Thank you for your views and insight. From real world knowledge i dont see the effects of memory loss in people, i know who are
constant users of dope. Then again i only know of three people that use it on a daily basis. :p
If you DO take drugs...
think of some great program ideas while you're on drugs, then program them while you're off drugs...:-D
I think that's what ill do! :D
