well before you deleted your thread you better grow up and listen to your elders. :D if you don't want help then don't ask. I'm sorry if I affended you but I was curious on how your computer could even start on 200W PS

Durons need a clean 300W (amd certified power supply) to even boot. trust me I ran in to this problem. do you think that all the stuff you put in your computer can run on a 200W PS. think again. and you are only running one HD then you have room to hook another one to it on your cable.

even 300 is being skimpy, but it will satisfy...

See if you can somehow obtain at least a 300w from Dell because you're never going to be able to add another hard drive with 200 watts on a 933mhz pentium 3. uh just tell em it blew out or something.

if it's a standard connection (although I doubt Dell has a standard PSU connetion) pick up one at your local computer store, and be very careful while replacing it!

well that is why I build my own, dell, compaq, and PB suck, even though I use compaq at work. to proprietary for me.

that also shows how skimpy Dell it. that is why they sell them so cheap.

Yes, I deleted the thread. It was going too far off-topic, and every other post was "What? That sucks, I have something better!" I asked for advice on hard drives, not on how much certain brands of computers suck. Please stay on topic.

Agree.

Not to insult ANYONE, and surely not our good friend Filburt :D :D, but a lot of people who buy computers don't upgrade anything, so the OEM can get by with the bare minimum. Not to say that there aren't people who buy computers and do upgrade, but a lot don't upgrade,

Yes, I can understand your rationale. But I'd rather not spend upwards of $300 just to add a hard drive. The thing works great right now (even when I spin the burner and DVD at the same time :)), so I feel there is no reason to upgrade anything else. I'm not made of money. :rolleyes:

I did stay on subject. I told you I liked WD and they were a good brand. then you said that you don't enough room for another HD and you looked at the controller card for another HD. well then you said that you computer has a 200W PS and that is insuffecient. I was stating i fyou did get the 80gig and all the other stuff you plan on getting then you will have to get a bigger PS

suggestions:

If you can get a Firewire drive for cheap, go for that, because it runs on its own power source. But it's probably about the same as a new PSU plus the HD.

i have an 80gb maxtor firewire and I love it

Maybe you want to remove your 20GB drive and put the 80 in there instead? Only one HD requiring power.. sell the 20GB and you are effectively paying LESS for the hard drive ;)

yes, anything WD I will back, and I have a 18gig ata/100 and it rocks. so if you think about getting that one I would. so why can't you have another HD hooked up?

No WD drives aren't the BEST..but certainly better than Hitachi and Samsung, and i understand you're on a tight budget (I am also, i'm 15 and i don't have a job)

If you can get a Maxtor for a lower price do that, but You must MAKE SURE you have a Maxtor inside the box and not a Quantum (Maxtor bought Quantum so they are getting rid of the Quantums)!!! Because Quantum really does suck!!!

Firewire is awesome. We have a firewire drive at school that we use to transfer iMovie projects, and since they are several GB each, it is awesome. But that isn't practical in this situation. And, strangely enough, I don't have firewire ports. Yes, I know you can get a card, but an 80 GB HDD AND a card AND a firewire mounting is over $350.

I didn't even read this all thread, only about 3 post, and I heared something about Dell computers, in my PC Meg says that Dell is the best systems out there, so go with Dell if you are going to get a new computer.

If you want a new computer, get Dell.

If you want a real computing machine, build your own.

Anyone with a basic knowledge around the inside of their computer shouldn't have a problem doing so and it's cheaper too.

O yea and we're complaining about 200 watt PSUs in Dell :p :p

yeah, like jpbtennisman said, if you want a real computer, build it yourself...actly, if you build it your self, you know what's in it and alot easyer to fix if something goes wrong. and not only that, you can add whatever you want in there, like a 80 GB hard drives, most Co. only give you up to 40 GB hard drive space, not unless you ask for a higher one. and they sometimes give you crapy sound cards or built-in ones, but if you build it yourself, you can put in the best sound cards that you want. and, once again what jbtennisman said, it's cheaper.
