I graduated from high school EIGHT Years before you were born.
But yes, it's really nice to hang out on the same site for a long time.... September 6th, 1999 is when I joined a sister site.
Been here only 11 years but I was aware of the forum and regularly browsed its pages (and others) but at that time I had abandoned VB6 in disgust due to MS and its stance on VBx as a language. I left programming altogether in fact only to return as a hobbyist using javascript/jscript, then when those died on the desktop, I returned belatedly to create an account here. I remember chatting with Olaf on other platforms about VB6 gaining a "head of steam". I was sort of correct but it did take a long time...
I have been BASIC-ing since 1979.
I honestly can't remember when I joined but I'd guess it was 02/03ish.
It is odd, can't find where you found out my birth year, I checked my profile and can't find the year but I can see the month and date, and I don't even know how to edit it, lol.
You must be referring to CodeGuru?
Wow, you are BASIC-ing before I was born, lol
You joined on April 12, 2005 :)
I think (though I'm not entirely sure) that they lost all the original join dates a while back due to some database corruption. It's kinda become part of the auld VBF lore, along with snake games and ex tractor fans. So I don't entirely trust the date in my sig - though it could be right - I don't know. It certainly could be right, it's about the right time.Quote:

I do know that I lurked on here poaching other people's answers for a long time before I plucked up the courage to post myself. This was actually the first forum I ever joined.
My join date is pretty much correct. I lurked for a little while prior to that, but not for very long. At that time, there was a whole lot of talk about the great database crash that wiped out so much information about when people started and post counts. Somebody lost around 10,000 posts, which seemed like a ridiculous number of posts, to me....at that time.
I don't know when that crash happened, but it had to be before my join date, though possibly only a few months before.
It's been a very long time.
Started out asking very dumb questions here, and posting with some attitude. I only come back once in a while when an old thread is necro'd now. I'm amazed that this place still exists!
VBF brings nostalgia, I remember that I just went to a computer shop to register and post here, I didn't have internet connection back then.
This was the first computer I created BASIC programs using.

This was the second.

We had a TRS-80 level I, with 4K RAM and a tape drive. You couldn't do much with it.
I never had a PC till I was @ 35yrs old. Probably @ '88. Actually it wasn't mine, I was doing the weekly billing for a friend that owned a trucking company and they bought the PC and I kept it at my house.
I didn't start with BASIC, I gradually worked my way back to it. lol
The zx80 had just 1K, I did loads with it, primarily typing in primitive games, nought and crosses in 991 bytes. The PC had 512K and an 10mb Seagate HD and was a beast by comparsion. GWBASIC was a bit limited though, unsure why, it just didn't seem to be as much fun.
We were just discussing retro "stuff" in a work meeting, and it made me think about my time on VBForums, and I happened to stumble into this thread!
Lots of good times on this site, but haven't been here in a long time!
Hope everyone is doing well!
In all these years, I've been wondering whether that was an ice pack you had on your head.
Other than that, we've been getting by.
My avatar is a photo of me, taken on a lads holiday to Cancun, just after I graduated from university. The night before, I drank far, far too much Tequila, and was I feeling very, very sorry for myself, holding my head as I lay on a sun bed by the side of the pool! Ah, happy days! :)
Glad to hear that things are going well!
