UK Mainland Vehicle Registration Region Codes

Following on from the mention of UK Vehicle Registrations in the recent cars thread I knocked this up last night...

nice, where did you get the list of region codes?

When I was a young lad my mum had a booklet which listed them all but has long since gone missing

Years later when I was at university one of my lecturers provided a file with them in for use in a piece of Modula 2 course work. I think he copied them all from a similar booklet.

A year or so ago I wrote web page using JavaScript to search the list with the user being able to choose one of 3 different search methods to demonstrate efficiency of search algorithms - linear, binary and random.


My son was fascinated by being able to tell where a car came from and a few months ago my wife bought him an "I Spy" book which lists them all and it looks as though my list was complete.

Some combinations are listed a "spare" whatever that means e.g. X_ (although you see more these days because people can choose whatever combination they want)

Strangely, my dad had a car (donkeys years ago) with the reg TXC 377J


This ASP page just does a simple database lookup.
