W11 not show second on the taskbar clock
After May 2023 w11 patch you can enable showing seconds on taskabar clock.
We like to thank MS that expanded our expectation and did what every other windows version do from the beginning.
Thank you MS i still have w7 at home.
Edit: MS warns you that if you allow to show seconds the performance may decrease and it seems quite logical as we are not dealing with an oversized clock anyhow (PC)....They must be sniffing something for sure.

After long tests in the Insider versions of Windows 11, Microsoft has now activated the seconds display in the taskbar clock for all Windows 11 users with update KB5028185 last week. The option to turn it on can be found in your Windows settings under “Personalization -> Taskbar -> Taskbar behaviors.” Check the box that says “Show seconds in the taskbar clock” to activate it. When you do, Microsoft warns that the setting “consumes more power.”
Re: W11 not show second on the taskbar clock
Exactly. Counting seconds consumes more power, its CPU basics 1o1. :afrog:
Re: W11 not show second on the taskbar clock
So after several years Microsoft's Slacksiders (Basement Dwellers) finally had some input on something?
Clearly they haven't been doing any testing of real features people use, because bug after bug has slipped through to daylight users getting normal patches and updates. But gosh, at least now we can turn on seconds display, hmm.
What'll their demands get us next? Some lame skeuomorphic skinning? Maybe like the old Media Player "Headspace," "Harry Potter," "Little Pony," or something steampunk?
Re: W11 not show second on the taskbar clock
Well here is the issue.
I'm in need of a stopwatch on windows. Now if I turn to MS they will probably end up consuming more power again. So what they might have to do is put out a new driver for the stopwatch that will link it's extreme capabilities directly to the GPU unit thus avoiding any main CPU overhead. Now the issue here is that if I want to play games I must be sure that no stopwatch is running into the background as the game might lack frame rates, or, or, I can overclock the graphic card so any overhead done by the stopwatch to be "consumed" by the extra GHz of the overclock.
Really tough stuff here.
Re: W11 not show second on the taskbar clock
We are not running Windows 11 on a PDP 8s. The CPU power needed to display seconds is insignificant. What takes the extra power is Microsoft's extra useless bling-bling and eye-candy that they are always adding to Windows.

I wouldn't even know how to start something like that :o

Even with the eye-candy is the CPU power consumption significant?
