~~~ Warning messages when logged in (intermediate page) ~~~
So, whenever I try to login, the login processing page is showing some PHP warnings. It has been some months now.
Why don't you guys fix it or maybe atleast turn off the warnings from appearing?
We are a community of developers and our main site itself is giving these kind of things! Am proud to be a member here. Because I learned so much from here in my initial days. Whenever someone asks about how I learned coding, the first thing that I tell them is about this forum!!
And it breaks my hear when I see this kind of things in the website.
I think you should atleast throw some dollars to the developers who manage this forum, and get everything fixed at the earliest. And also it would be better if we move to a more modern layout.
I did created a Chrome Extension a couple of years ago, and was listed in the Chrome Store. But someone reported and it was removed from the store. And that extension only did some UI changes to make the website look slightly better. I have included a forum thread also regarding its features that time.
There was no ad or anything displayed in that extension either. Anyway, am not talking more about it.
On behalf of all members, it's a request, we all would highly appreciate if the forum is revamped and bugs/warning fixed too.
Thank you
Re: ~~~ Warning messages when logged in (intermediate page) ~~~
It's been a known issue ever since the last upgrade in August 2018... For what ever reason, the people in charge don't seem to want to do anything about it. It stems from a conflict I believe between a plugin (the tag) or two that's used on VBF and the forum software itself. There have been several threads asking or it to be fixed... but yt, here we are, over a year later... most of us have just gotten used to it. Even worse though, I think, is the issue that causes quick replies to attempt at posting twice when submitted. Again... well.... here we are in Feb 2020 and still it is borked.
We do keep firing it up the chain but we seem to fall on deaf ears. I suspect those deaf ears are sadly attached to the sides of very busy heads. Although it's an annoyance it doesn't actually prevent the forum from working so it's probably sitting low in the priority list and stuff keeps getting put ahead of it.
It is frustrating.
I did another email earlier today.... Boss man is again doing his thing....
I mentioned how waiting 18+ months is about 17 months longer than what it used to take to get things fixed....
Yes, particularly insecure login connections as https isn't used that I first reported March 2017 - nearly 3 years ago!
Out of interest, and hoping we aren't heading down a rabbit hole, why exactly would you want https connections, are there paid options or something available here?
http login isn't secure. Firefox gives a warning and directs to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...urce=inproduct for info.
Plus, people like me who are behind company firewalls and proxies have issues with non-https sites - in my case, I get redirected to the company firewall system, where the site is checked against a list - if it's not approved, access is denied. Fortunately either VBF is white-listed, or not black-listed so I'm able to get through. But https sites don't go through the same ordeal.
Also, I'm going to hazard a guess that even on a technical site like this, some members are using the same login and password as they do for their banking:eek:
And shame on them.... Not going to say they deserve what they get... There's really not much of value that anyone has in their account here.... The owners of this site are very much aware of the modem computing world... and I'd like to think that someday they'll do the SSL thing.
I no longer work for QuinStreet. :) I was the primary person within the company that fought for the forums. When I left, https was supposed to happen - especially on this and the Codeguru forums, which are the bigger forums. Google indicated 3+ years ago that it was going to start penalizing sites that weren't https.
Squeaky wheel gets the grease, especially when it can show how the owner is losing money by not fixing something.....
The issue is that a password stolen from this site is what will first be used against other sites where there might be something of value. Of course, that doesn't change your fundamental point: Shame on them! The larger issue is the reuse of passwords. Once one gets compromised, it will be tried elsewhere.
