Hurricane Dorian et al...
To those in Florida, Ga, SC, and any where else in Dorian's path... stay safe...
It looks like this is just the beginning too. There's another system that's spinning up in the middle of the Gulf that seems to have its eyes on Mexico, and already there's yet another system gearing up just off the Ivory Coast. I'm in Charleston SC, so right now we're occupied with Dorian, hoping that it'll just be a glancing blow, but still prepared for the worst. I hate hurricanes. As it was so eloquently put "Waiting for a hurricane is like being stalked by a turtle." Doesn't help that I'm now sick, and I can already feel the pressure changes triggering a headache. It's going to be a long week.

It's an odd storm. I have an unclear picture on where Dorian is going. At this point, it's kind of a gray area. It seems like it may live forever, but in the end, it probably won't.

Funny you should call it a grey area... it seems to change every time they put up a new graphic... coincidentally I watched The Picture of Dorian Grey the other day... I began to wonder...

I was trying to add as many allusions as people might get with only a casual understanding of The Picture of Dorian Grey, but perhaps my allusions were illusions, or just a delusion.

I've never been Wilde about that story...
Re: Hurricane Dorian et al...
people in Germany are very fortunate not to worry about Hurricanes or Tornados
I lived in Kansas for a while and the Tornados were really scary at times
Re: Hurricane Dorian et al...
You're not in Kansas anymore...in toto.

I guess it'll rain down in America. But I reckon you'll be ok if you hold the line.
On a more serious note, stay safe.

This is idiotic on so many levels from just plain being a narcissistic liar to putting out false information that could adversely affect peoples lives. Like preparing for a hurricane that will not even come close. I am just astounded that our nation just shrugs it off this kind of behavior.
p.s. What he did is actually illegal...but what else is new?
Per 18 U.S. Code 2074, which addresses false weather reports: “Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.”
Lastly, it may seem I'm always attacking Trump but in reality I am demonstrating tremendous restraint with the few items I do post in Chit Chat. But giving credit where credit is due...he did find Alabama on the map :p

Re: Hurricane Dorian et al...
Yeah, that one really was bizarre. Do we know if he actually made the correction himself, or maybe a "helpful" aide gave it to him and he assumed it was legit.
I'm assuming it wasn't legit. I can't think of any possible way it could be.

Honestly, me too. But it does seem that Trump supporters really believe in him and I'm not comfortable attacking peoples sincerely held beliefs just for fun. It's why I hate it when people slam on religion, even though I'm not religious myself.
With figures like Trump, though, what's the point in posting about every daft thing he does? You're not going to change anyone's mind about him - everyone either loves him or hates him already.
When he does something truly horrible, that's cause to post and debate and we shouldn't be afraid to call that stuff out. The implementation of the immigration policy on the Southern Border is the big one for me. I can understand (though not agree with) people wanting to control levels of legal immigration and combat illegal immigration, but when you're willing to accept separating children from their parents and putting them in camps, something has gone deeply wrong with your society.

From my limited view of news across the pond it seems you have your own version of "burn it all down" Trump with that Johnson fellow. I'm seeing all kinds of turmoil these last few days in the news over Brexit and if the political maneuvering around it. Even his brother couldn't support him. It seems both versions of our leaders care more about themselves then the people they represent.
Re: Hurricane Dorian et al...
Yeah, we're having a pretty good discussion about it in the other thread.
The Johnson siblings are interesting. His Sister (Rachel) was a pretty liberal journalist for a long time and was one of the members of Change UK (the rebels who broke away from Tory and Labour to try and block Brexit under Theresa May), I've also got a vague memory that she was a Lib Dem for a while but that may be a false memory. His brother is a centrist Tory who supported leave but was fairly moderate about it. Boris is a fairly liberal Tory but hard Brexiter. And their dad was also a Tory MP but I don't remember what shade.
I imagine the conversations round that dinner table can get pretty lively
Re: Hurricane Dorian et al...
Sounds like they have deliberately avoided talking about it. I read that the sister said they wouldn't discuss it at the table, to avoid dumping on the PM. That statement, alone, would be suggestive.
I hear that the graphic set off a whole meme of various lines being added to pictures to show various things.

And the hits just keep on coming.
Re: Hurricane Dorian et al...
Yeah, it's really taken off as a meme. Like I said, it's a really bizarre story. I get that he could make a slip and mention Alabama in his initial warning but the doubling down on something that's so demonstrably incorrect by drawing with a biro on a map is just plain weird.
Re: Hurricane Dorian et al...
Mind you, while us Brits can poke fun at Trump, we're being equally crazy right now. Because Doomsday Prepping just an American thing, right?
Mind you, we're British so our grab bag has tea and biscuits in it. NB this wasn't actually to do with Brexit but, due to the timing, that's where we've gone with it.
