Well, I certainly think it's a cool thing, but I lack the time or space to get into it. I've always had a bit of an interest in it, just never an opportunity.
Do you follow Cody's Lab (YouTube)?
One of his more recent videos: Gardening With Cody 12017 Week 15 &16: Making Improvements.
He's done a number of things in this category and has an outdoor system going currently. He also has a ton of videos on beekeeping, one-man mining, and general science.
No, you've just forgotten. It's a VBF meme. Moti wrote Battle Programming, and it's wonderful. What got me thinking about that was your mention of all the, rather disparate, things that Cody Lab seemed to cover. Battle Programming covers such topics as various things in coding, how to make glass, how to undercut businesses that annoy you, and so forth.
Ahh, yes I remember that now. At the time it was current I had a full-time job, was trying to start a contracting business before retiring, and I was hung up in some legal action over the rights to opening the source code of MMM which was partially written while working for an earlier employer.
So I didn't pay as much attention to some of the weird and wacky stuff here.
Oddly enough Cody's most recent videos covered glass making... basically from dirt (i.e. sand and other "manually sourced from nature" materials).
The guy desperately needs a shave and a haircut. He is beginning to look like a character out of The Three Musketeers or something.
Glass making seems to have been gaining a foothold in the artisinal world, these days. A buddy of mine took a glass blowing course with his girlfriend, a few years back. Just the fact that there WAS a glass blowing course in this city was indication enough that a trend was forming. Glass emptying, I could see, but not glass blowing.
Every time I think of people messing with molten glass I keep hearing Butthead "Heh heh, heh heh, fire, fire! Ohh-OH-oh-oh."
They give me a pane, though I realize they can provide a window into the psyche. Most glass blowers don't do anything original, anyways. They're too busy vase ilating without making a good enough looking glass to reflect on.
Something like this ??

That is just the watered down version, unless I'm all wet about that.Quote:
I've messed with hydroponics when I was a teenager, but nothing like this.
Was thinking of putting together a simple system, a couple of fish and a plant or two maybe. Thank god I am a vegetarian, else I would be replenishing both!
I am open to buy a readymade kit for a few grand, if that gets me going faster than the complete DIY route - but this would have to be from within India. Or else a really illustrative DIY video would help.
It's fascinating how fish and plants manage just fine without man.
About that glass blowing, doesn't that hone one's blowing skills? Can be put to good use...
