changing controls inside EditItemTemplate (gridview)

I have a gridview that I want to show a dropdownlist (for, let's say, column1) when it has a certain value, and I want to change that same column into a label when it has a certain value. Is this possible with gridview? if so, any ideas?

You can use javascript for that.
