Monitor a files activity?
Hi everyone! :)
This is a really hard question, and I need some help with it. I have tried googling but couldn't find a working solution.
I would like to know how I can hook into a file, and monitor a files activity (what the file does, tasks it executes). Of course you don't have to make it monitor everything!! Just maybe monitor if it tries to delete a file from Windows directory, and block it from doing so. I know, this is a really hard thing to do.
If you can help, it's very much appreciated. If you can make the code as lightweight as possible, that would also be great, or if you could make it check when a file tries to delete the windows files, and THEN hook into it etc and stuff. Yeah.
Thanks. :)
Re: Monitor a files activity?
Are you paying somebody to do this? If so then this belongs in the Open Positions (Jobs) forum. Otherwise, most(if not all) members here won't write the code for you without you showing any effort.
Re: Monitor a files activity?
I'm 16 years old so I have no money to hire somebody... I wanted to learn how to make the features in those security products.
Re: Monitor a files activity?
Ok, so you're not wanting to pay somebody. What have you attempted? You mentioned that you Googled how to incorporate some of those features, but you didn't say what you went about actually trying to do. What code did you try and how did it fail?
Re: Monitor a files activity?
I just wanted to point out something. You seem to ask a lot of questions with no attempt of providing any code. Examples that are way beyond beginner level.
In your previous thread that got closed you mentioned "virus", now Monitor a files activity and finally IP Blocking/Website blocking. Now i am not accusing you of any thing illegal. How ever due to the fact we get a lot of young members find these types of software "fun" i want to make the admins aware of the constant nature of topics you ask.
Finally you are asking questions way beyond your level. We all want to get stuck right in. But no member will provide you with any code with out you making an effort showing us first. Please don't take this the wrong way because last time you got quite rude. :)
Re: Monitor a files activity?
Guys, while theProgrammingKid's posts may have referred to viruses he has actually given a valid reason in another thread as to why he's asking and all of his question have been consistent with that reason. We should give him the benefit of the doubt. He should be able to ask questions and receive answers just the same as the rest of us.
That said, it's common sense that, if you see him (or any other member) asking questions that are highly suspicious you should report it to the mods using the report button. It is, after all, what we're here for.
Thanks for your cooperation.
edit> Ident, I've left your post in because your reasoning is actually pretty reasonable.
TheProgrammingKid, I suggest you go back and read Ident's post again. He's not actually accusing you. He's merely explaining why your recent question might appear suspicious. Don't forget, you're not the only new member we've had on the forum and some of them have been trying to do things they shouldn't. That's why we get protective.
