I got 65.7% on the Technician test. I only needed to get a few more right to pass.
Technical - You correctly answered 18 out of 35 questions for 51.4%.
With zippo experience in the area. I don't think that's too bad. I even got the diagram questions right.

I got the diagram question right, too, along with almost all the electrical questions. On the other hand, the ones they asked that were about specific frequencies and things....I got about 1 in 4, which shows that I was totally guessing. I blew the diode question, too.
I had three diagrams in mine... I blew just about anything that was related to an organization and who does what. I ran about 50/50 on frequencies, and blew it on a few others involving interference. It seems I got the really technical bits right, and missed it on the less technical aspects. Thinking about giving the general one a shot, just because I can.

When I first started I got the electronics ones correct. But as far as the regulations, not so well. Now I am scoring at least 90% or higher on both Technician and General

That's a hoot, because I feel like I only understood about five of those questions. That was some seriously good guessing, I'd have to say. For the first dozen, I wasn't even sure what half the words were. At least they asked a question about binary, so I knew I'd get one question above 25%. Largely speaking, whenever they had "All of the above" as an option, it was the right answer. The only time it wasn't the right answer....it suckered me, because it was one where I almost went with the right answer (I didn't even understand one of the others, and wasn't sure about a third), but when I saw that "All of the above", I went for it.
All the above is misleading because it doesn't show up for all the questions... so you assume it has to be the answer. The ones that got me where the "Which frequency falls in the XYZ Band" and it lists 4 frequencies that are similar.

It kind of sounds like the questions are drawn from a larger pool of questions, which would be good. TG had three diagrams, but I had only two (one to identify the oscillator and the other to identify a varistor). One of the general questions I got was how long the antenna should be cut for a quarter wavelength of some frequency. I remember my father working that out in his head to make me a radio antenna when I was back in HS, or earlier. He'd probably ace this test, still, even though he hasn't worked with radio hardware for decades. That memory helped, though, as I got the right answer.
Yeah it is drawn from a question pool. Questions in pool:
Tech = 394
General = 456
Extra = 700
It makes studying them easy, because you just study the questions, which is what I did. I found a website that helps you study with flash cards. If you miss a question is shows you it again multiple times to ensure you get it right.
Taking my tests this morning at 1000... we will see how it goes...

Did mine in 1968, totally different type of examination, just 2 parts; regulations (2 questions which you had to get 80% correct) and 4 out of 6 technical questions. No multiple choice. Also had to pass a Morse Code sending and receiving test at 12 words per minute.
Yeah I am glad I didn't have to do a morse code test. I don't ever intend to use Morse code nor do I ever intend to listen to it...
I took two tests, each 35 questions. Passed both, got my Technician and my General in one sitting.
You and everyone else. That's the reason they got rid of the requirement. The only time I ever hear it is when I listen to the local spotters during stormy weather. The repeaters send out a "_.." (W) every 30 seconds when there's storm warning issued.Quote:

California allows you to drive with a scanner as long as your are not in the act of committing a crime.
