The exams that are required by the state start tomorrow :eek:.. The worst test is my first one... Biology :(


My German exam is today, but since I haven't completed the entire German course yet(only the first year) we only have to write a "letter".

Jamagei(HA! spelt it right this time): I'm taking German 'cause I didn't know my school had a latin course... I thought there was only french, german, and spanish.. and well... french is gay, I don't like the spanish language.... so that left me thinking there was only one alternative... I like German(I am German on my fathers side), but I think latin would have been cooler...

Well, when you put it like that, i suppose everyone has their reasons. I was lucky. I had a really fit teacher (when i say fit, HoneyBee, I really mean she was very attractive) didn't get much work done though :)

Arrgghhh! Meiosis and Mitosis. I used to remember this. I was pretty good at biology.

Well, my German teacher is >60 years old and has grand children *shiver*... you lucky bastard....

One is ordinary cells splitting isnt it? And one is sex cells (which only have half the normal stuff in) sticking together to make baby cells. Is that right?

I think that's right, but I absolutely hate this subject, and have not paid attention all year.... so I don't really know... two years ago I loved this subject, and had a 98% average.. I got 100% on every quiz and had the highest grade in the glass.... but now I have a 79% average and failed the last three tests(they are review tests for the exams)...

I prefer chemistry.....

I found biology easiest of all. I was pretty good at science (our school bundled bio, chem and phys all together), got double A* at GCSE and then hit A-levels and totally lost the plot.

79% isn't too terrible. With a little bit of work you could drag that up to high 80s early 90s.

Thanks :) But the end of the school year is in 1 month, so I won't have much time to bring my grade up.. If I get a good grade on the finals, I should be able to bring it up to mid 80s, but I don't think I'll get in the 90s.. I don't see how I used to know and like all of this biology stuff.... I used to know everything about mitochondrian, cell walls, cell membranes, vacuoles, DNA, etc. etc... but then I found out about chemistry and forgot all that boring stuff.... :eek:

I never sleep in any class, but sometimes I just don't listen... Although I hear the teacher talking, none of it is 'registering' with my brain..... That's probably bad....

I'm sure you'll do fine....is this STAR testing? (state apptitude blah, blah, blah standardized, put everyone in a box and see how they measure up to some ridiculous standard if you want federal funding testing?) or actual final exams?

These are the state exams. In Virginia they are S.O.L. Standards Of Learning. The final exams, made and given by the teachers end the day before we get out of school..

I used to think Biology was easy, but then it got boring because chemistry interested me so much more... I hate biology.

McEwen actually evacuated the classroom of asthmatics, and then sat smiling at us as we proceeded to demolish his lab. He even gave us in-depth information into the chemical reactions we were causing, while his precious materials, furniture etc went up in smoke.

I also remember someone spiking David Neild's can of coke with pure ethanol ;)

Oh yeah, I'd forgot about that one!

My science class last year was awesome.... one time the teacher was heating up about 500ml of rubbing alcohol(to show the evaporation speed)... but he stopped watching it... then we all heard *crack WHOOOOOOOOOOSH* The beaker broke and the alcohol cought on fire.... He cought a pair of safety goggles on fire(like they were worth anything if they can catch that easily), and about a weeks worth of our work :D as well as a few kids backpacks....

Another time he covered his hand in lighter fluid and lit it.... And the most exciting time was when he filled a baloon with hydrogen, and lit it.... I think the windows blew out(I can't quite remember), and he melted another pair of goggles.... I don't think they're supposed to catch light so easily...

No, we didn't get into trouble for our research-based arson. I don't really know why. McEwen could have a real temper on him, but he always just seemed to accept that me 'n' Arbiter were gonna make a mess. It's not that we were bad students (the opposite really - we even proposed certain theoretics that had him scratching his head), we just enjoyed a nice fire (heh heh :D)

SATs are college entrance apptitude test....they still have to take them to be accepted by a state college full time.

When I went to college a couple of years ago, all I had to take was a test call a "placement test". But you may be right. I was just saying that back then it was called SAT and it was the big thing, fill in the bubble and it didn't mean anything. the SAT's back then were for college's but you took them in high school. some colleges looked at them, and some didn't. I haven't heard very much of them now, so you might be right, who am I to argue with a women, :p :p

Hehe scoutt...if we were arguing then you're pretty laid back! I think the kids have to take wayyyy too many apptitude tests that mean NOTHING! If you don't fit in to "their" little mold you don't do well on the tests....you can't take an entire nation's youth and homogenize them and expect everyone to pass! Stupid, stupid stuff!
