No Jethro......Archie was smarter than W ever will be!
W... the president formerly known as bush :p
Barrk: This has nothing to do with BushyBoy but about the power crisis in California... What restrictions have been put in place...? and is the original power plant a Nuclear one...?
* Cyberwarpy gets a cold reminder about the movie: "The China Syndrome"

I live in California.
The only restrictions that have affected the city i live in..is the fact that the cost of electricity per month has gone up 50% and that sucks...and if that wasnt enough..now gasoline is up as well. The high grade gas is $2.15/gallon and the cheap stuff ( which i run my car with :p )
is 1.90$/gallon
And that's not all.... i have heard that any business that leaves their power on overnight with no one occupying the business at the time, will recieve a fine for wasted electricity.
I can remember a false alarm in Melbourne about a power shortage...there was this huge outcry in the middle of summer (42 degree heat :o)... Melbournians stopped using A/C, TV's, Washing Machines during Day time... but:
There was np Power Shortage!! Melbourne actually had enough power to power the entire Australia!! And Melbourne has only 3 coal powered stations...

I might have seen it..but long ago but i dont remember
Funnily enough even up here in Canada we're being affected by the California power shortage. Ya see, our power companies can sell their power to CA for a huge profit, so they're screwed up argument is that why would they sell it to us Albertans for a lesser price. So our power prices have shot through the roof. Thanks guys:)Quote:

As for China Syndrom, it's fiction and pretty technically inaccurrate.

The Air Force base removed all but every third light from our office to conserve electrity. They set the thermostats at 58 which was too flipping cold and now they are set to 70 which is much better since it's been in the 90s for the past month! Our electric rates at home have already risen and are expected to go much higher but I'm not to worried as I already had my house energy efficient. I have a bbq which does most of the cooking anyway and we spend much of our time outside anyway. My electric bill was $114 last month which is already rather high and we've been hit by rolling black outs twice. The real challenge will be not turning on the air conditioner when it's 112 outside!! W said on the news last night that all Californians need to do to get through this is conserve. He suggested we stay off the internet as the #1 way to conserve. What a boob he is!!!!
:D LOL. The guys who write the quote books are having a field day with this berk!!!Quote:

Look, it's very simple. California is a very rich state with a lot of sunshine.
Solar power....
Living in the desert we have a solar farm on one side of the base and wind farm to the North of us. SCE (the big power company) "bought" power from both of them but never paid the bill. They are both in grave danger of going out of business! How completely assinine is that?????? We are in the middle of a "crisis" all right....unfortunately it's a crisis of stupidy not electricity!!!!!!
Somthing needs to come from government then. I mean, the present administration are so environmentally focussed that they are sure to snap up solar power in an instance 8-?
Yeah..right:rolleyes: Govenor Davis did pay the solar and wind farms enough to keep afloat from the coffers of the state but ultimately we are paying for it....so....we paid SCE and now we are paying the two other companies for their power....either way...we are paying money only to recieve black outs. Something is definitely wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately consuming less energy isn't going to help as the electricity companies still have a bottom line to make at the end of the year. If you use less they will just charge more per unit to keep their profits up. (Standing costs for staff and equipments almost always far outway the actual raw materials used to make power anyway).
The only option is to generate more electricity and introduce some competition.
Might I suggest hooking up dynamo's to the cycling machines in all the health clubs? Burning the fat extracted from lipo-suction operations? Generating a charge from the oranges? - (I seem to remember you can stuff 2 electrodes into acidic fruit and generate electricity). Parking a Nuclear Submarine/Aircraft carrier off the coast and hooking it's reactor up to the grid? Burning all your voting ballads (all the hanging chads should add a couple of MegaWatts)? Sending pictures of Pamela Andersons breasts to Canada?
Er, okay the last one might have had nothing to do with power gen.

When ever the govt messes up..who has to take the blame? the people..i find it ridiculous that we people have to suffer ( rolling blackouts, higher energy bills ) for the electric companies stupidity about not paying the money they owe.
You do need to bear in mind that Gov. Davis was not in office when all this mess was created however. That was the legacy of the wonderful REPUBLICAN administration policy to "help" Californians keep money in their pockets instead of paying for the electricy all along....yeah, it saved us money for the time being but look at the consequences! Sounds a lot like W's idea to give us a tax cut instead of paying down the national debt.....great in the short term but we will end up paying for it in the long run!
