[RESOLVED] Thinking about ditching my desktop
Hi,
I was think of getting rid of my desktop could my laptop running X64 Windows handle the programs that were installed on the desktop specifically games? Although, I doubt laptops require 16GB of RAM (amount currently install in desktop). The only downsides I can think of to switching is the decrease in RAM and the decrease in Hard-drive space (currently about 1.5TB on my desktop).
What do you think?

Re: Thinking about ditching my desktop
High-end laptops are pretty awesome these days. You'll never get the same performance as a really high-end desktop system but you can certainly play games at reasonable frame-rates as long as you get good dedicated graphics hardware. You do lose some portability with machines like that but if you'll be at a desk most of the time then that's not too big a deal. If gaming is a priority then you should at least consider Alienware.
Re: Thinking about ditching my desktop
My laptop is an ASUS Notebook N60Dp Series running Windows 7 which, I bought back in about 2010. I'm not sure how that would cope with the scheme of things? Although, as it stands at the moment I am mainly using my laptop for lan parties and some development stuff.
Re: Thinking about ditching my desktop
I'd recommend doing so only if you are going to buy a new high-end laptop, and the specs of that laptop matches with your needs. Otherwise there is now way you will be able to get the same performance with your old laptop.
To play games at good frame rates, you will need a laptop with good graphics card. While it is easy to add a graphics card of your choice to a desktop PC, its the other way round for the laptops.
Re: Thinking about ditching my desktop
The display adapter I currently have on my laptop is an ATI Mobility Raedon HD 4670.
Re: Thinking about ditching my desktop
it's rare to find them, but there are laptops with docking stations that contain actual video cards. The benefit of this is of course you can update the video card.
