Tyson, I have vb6 on my XP machine with Office 2003 (Rest of the config in my signature below) so I have not experienced the behavior which you have mentioned. Common Controls are not part of MS Office so I am kind of wondering as to why were they unregistered by office 2010. Just curious... Is Office 32 bit or 64 bit?
As far as installing multiple Office versions are concerned, I have never recommended it but you will still find lot of people who will vouch that it works just great on their setups.
