Learning Wordpress Development

Hi all,

Didn't tried Wordpress Development much. But me and a friend of mine decided to start learning it. But actually, when a company asks whether I know Wordpress Development, does they meant to ask whether I know Wordpress Theme Development ? Or is it just the Plugin Development? Or both? :confused:

Any good beginner level tutorial site that you would recommend for learning ? When searched in Google, found many. But not sure which one would be more suitable.
And the codex.wordpress.org seems to be just like Facebook documentation. I just don't want myself to retreat from learning Wordpress Development, just after going through the Documentation! :P

Any suggestions ?
