Some ppl still have 14.4K/28K modems... (You have my simpathy if you do own any of the aforementioned modems)
LAN, 10Mbps
kedaman: What's you avatar supposed to be saying? I tried to lip read but I'm usless. (Is he meant to be saying anything?)
it's "she"
"not until you tell them who i really am"
Oops! I forgot more than just the ISDN 64K... It doesn't really matter, they only allow 10 spots.Quote:

Kedaman: LAN, 10MByte/sec? That's pretty fast. But remember, that's the LAN(Network). What does your network connect to the net with?
10Mbit/s and i have a 10/100 Ethernet card so doesn't matter
14.4 Modem with NetZero... but I will have DSL soon... yipeeee!
A big grey one with blinking lights....... pretty......
SD
Let's see if anyone can top this... Speed:eek:
Kedaman, I have the same exact connection as you! I'm with RoadRunner. I like it, sometimes it can go up to 300 KBytes/sec...Quote:

P.S. The fastest I've ever gotten was about 500KBs/Sec...

Yeah, but is it pretty?Quote:

SD, what do you mean by is it pretty?
Hehe my fastest is 1.2M/s but it's very unusual to get speed above 500k, 50-100 is usual but i get a lot faster inside the country or close countries like sweden or germany
Your internet connection. Is it pretty? Does it have pretty coloured flashing lights? Does the colour of the cables compliment the connection box/modem? Does the colour of the modem accent the colour of your eyes? Speed isn't everything you know.
Jeez, you wouldn't buy an ugly fast car would you? So why lower your standards when buying an internet connection?
:D

Test Your Speed
Try the link above you check your speed
I tested on the first server (Megapath, CA) and got the results below. Depending on what time of the day it is these numbers vary.
Your download speed : 167006 bps, or 167 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 20.3 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 113636 bps, or 113 kbps.
My cable modem's small, white, with 4 lights on. When I press "Submit Reply" 2 of them will flicker... Pretty :DQuote:

But really, what is it?
Test running..........
** Speed 4825(down)/4870(up) kbps **
(At least 96 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.
mmmm 4.8 mb a second. Is that fast enough.
SD
SD... are you sure SD doesn't stand for SpeedDemon? 4.8MB/sec... Sounds like a T3(leased line) to me!!!
Here's my stats...
Your download speed : 422974 bps, or 422 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 51.6 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 345622 bps, or 345 kbps.
Yeah, well I do work for a giant telecommunications company. You would kind of expect it.
:D

My gosh why do you have to get so upset?:confused:Quote:

And yes, if you want to know, it does have "pretty colored flashing lights"...(Green ones):D

Sorry :) my "upset" tone was meant to be a kind of joking upset. Obviously doesn't come across very well on the ole internet :DQuote:

You can never have too many flashing lights on things. I once sent a complaint to the Sys Admin at a nuclear powerstation that I worked in, complaining that the new computer room didn't have anywhere near enough flashing lights and no-beeping sounds. He guessed it was from me straight away!
SD
P.S. I don't really phone up my ISP and ask them how pretty their modems are :D
megapath shows me:
Test running.........
** Speed 302(down)/101(up) kbps **
(At least 6 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.
linkline shows me:
Test running..........
** Speed 3163(down)/203(up) kbps **
(At least 63 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.
who should i believe?
Neither. It's a government conspirary to keep us buying the latest and greatest connection method to help the economy. Don't be fooled!!! A 28.8 modem is just as fast as a T3!!!
well i'm sure its the network i'm connected to, it's been unstable for a couple of months
Test running..........
** Speed 313(down)/775(up) kbps **
(At least 6 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.
Test running..........
** Speed 272(down)/176(up) kbps **
(At least 5 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.
Mine's internal, so I don't have lots of pretty flashing lights, but I do have space for other things on my desk which are prettier ;)
i have loads of papers and crap on my desk, doesn't look good but who cares
I tried my home connection and got
Your download speed : 4993605 bps, or 4993 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 609.5 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 332502 bps, or 332 kbps.
Your connection rocks .. above the 1mbit barrier!
Of course, this is probably because nobody else here in red-neck Alberta owns a computer, so I have the whole bandwith to myself.
The uploads a bit slow though.
SD
Here's a couple more links to test your speed.
http://webservices.cnet.com/bandwidth/
http://speedtest.mybc.com/
http://www.toast.net/performance/index.html
http://www.jefftech.net/library310.html
I've found that the dslreports link that I posted earlier to be the more consistent one.
SurfDemon -You think your upload speed is a little slow....You should try dealing with a 128k/sec. cap!
Thanks bloodeye!
I ran the second test from home and got
Starting download test
Http request: http://speedtest.mybc.com/10meg.test
Http connection opened in 0 milliseconds
Test performed in 20320 milliseconds
Total bytes downloaded: 10485760 bytes
Throughput: 3.937008 Mbps
I don't think it would be fair to run the test from work though as there is a very very very good chance that the server it is running on is in the same building ;)
Guess you now know the telecommunications company I work for :)
