Can someone tell me how to make a button in Flash that when clicked redirects the user to another URL? I can't find it in the help files.
Make sure Enable Buttons is unchecked in the Control menu, then right click the button and click Edit. Then you chose GoToURL from the combo box and type the URL. You can also put a target (for frames).
What combo box are you talking about?
That was for Flash 2. In Flash 5, you right click the button and chose Actions. Then click the + button and select Basic Actions -> Get URL. The type the URL in the box (and a target frame if required in the Window box)
here are step by step directions for Flash 5:
1) open flash
2) take the square control, and make a square
3) highlight it
4) goto Insert>Convert to symbol
5) under the options, click on Button
6) click OK
7) right click the square, and click ACTIONS
8) double click on GET URL (under Basic Actions)
9) enter the URL in the box called URL
10) click the X on the action script window
now when you make a SWF it will goto the url
If you already have an object, then start off from step 3

That's what I said???
Thanks a lot for your help, guys. Turns out I was using the wrong event. :o
yes chris, it is the same thing, mine was just a little more step by step, and easier for newbies to get started
Sorry, I'm just sick of people repeating everything almost exactly as I say it, just to get 1 higher post count. It pisses me off. One post this guy wanted to know how do refer to controls on another form, and I answered perfectly well, then this other guy makes about 3 posts (saying virtually the same thing) then goes and makes a project just to demonstrate!! It needs 1 line of code and he made 3 posts and a project?? Now c'mon if that ain't count-hunting then what is???? Needless to say I told him off.
But as this is Chit Chat, i'll let you off!!;)
See, you dont know the level of Wynd's experence, if he was a newbie, he wouldn't know how to make a button. And if he doesn't know how to make a button, what you said in your posts above makes no sence to him (or her).

Well, not suggesting anything but it looks to me like either wynd has an illegal copy of flash (with no help) or he/she just couldn't be arsed to look because there is an entire section on making buttons. Help -> Lessons -> Buttons. Anyway, I think we have devoted far too much time to this pointless conversation.
