Factoring??

I'm reading a tutorial about quadratic equations, and I met a word I didn't understad (I'm from Denmark...:D)

The word is factoring, and is a part of the following sentence:

2x^2+6x=0 <=>
<=> 2x*(x+3) = 0
<=> x=0 Or x=-3

What is that, and what does the word factoring mean??

Within a multiplication x * 4 *y we have x factor, 4 factor and the y factor. But 4 * x can be a factor as well.

Factoring is to put in evidence a factor as I did in he last post ( the 2*x factor)

Ok, but why did you get this <=> 2x*(x+3) = 0 on the second line??

I think this is called distributing (it's the inverse of factoring I suppose)

I'm sorry if I'm a little slow, but where did the number 3 come from??? 6/2 ??

This is a simple example. Don't underestimate yourself, I'm quite slow in programming. I still use a VB 2.0 help file;)
