Recommendations for a rugged laptop / tablet.
I'm after a rugged laptop / tablet for my project at work. It needs to be at least IP65 certified and capable of running Windows. I'll be using it in an exposed marine environment. It does not have to be too powerful.
Has anyone here had any experience with such devices? Any recommendations?
Re: Recommendations for a rugged laptop / tablet.
I've had some (limited) experience with Opentec devices. Their stuff might go "above and beyond" what you require though. It's used by the Australian Army, so I'm guessing it handles quite well. It looks like they follow various MIL-STD specs and IEC 60529 (equivalent to IP ratings). Keep in mind that they are an Australian company, so you might have to enquire with them what other types of power adapters they have available (other than the standard Australian 240V/50Hz AC). I'm not sure whether stuff in a marine environment (boats, etc.) has special power adapters but I'm guessing you would know that.

I've just been out to see the site where I'll be working. It is an offshore wind turbine. We were told I'd have to work on the outside as you need certain tickets to get inside but I've managed to get myself clearance to work inside it with one of their engineers. My tough book has just dissolved into a standard laptop in a dry sack, hey ho.

Should be much cheaper than going for a ruggedized notebook :)
