Seeing as I'm a first son, I certainly hope not.
Erk...me too (only son )
Well...
I'm a reasonable religious guy, but I think we shouldn't take that kind of conclusions that easly.
I read somewhere that the whole bible can be one single sentence: "Don't do to others what you wouldn't like to be done to you." A rabi said this I suppose... and added that the rest were just comments.:D
So, as the story of the plagues is part of a wide list of comments/stories, I think that what happens today is the same thing: just comments to main sentence, the above one.
To abstract maybe... ;)
Ho, it was not only in Britain that the floods happened.
Ever thought about Mozambique?
Yep :)
And I expect they're complaining just as much as we are!
Foot and Mouth being punishment from God? I doubt it.
I thought we got punished when we end up in Hell. Although many people say this is hell, I think even God could come up with a more effective means of punishing us than that.
What about all the poor cows, sheep and pigs? What harm they ever do anyone?
The religous (or supernatural) explanation is just what people fall back on either when there isn't a scientific explanation or they don't like the scientific explanation.
It's fair enough - I'm not a religious nut, it's just a thought that occurred to me the other day whilst I was on the bus.
I'm a first born son too.
Also- did anyone read about the aid package that mozambique sent over to yorkshire? Quite a turn up for the books.
I am glad really, because if it is turning that way, I am 2nd born! :D
How do you know it will be first born sons again? Maybe this time they'll take the youngest instead (just to be fair of course).
I don't think God's punishing us for our sins, morelike GAIA's beginning to move towards a new ecological equilibrium due to our increasing impact on the environment.
We may yet experience (as a race) something more devastating that the nine plagues were to Egypt.
Wasn't it ten plagues?..
No ! What happened?Quote:

I remember a few years ago some Comedian arranged for a big tanker to carry water to one of the English Water Companies during a hose pipe ban. The banner on the side of the tanker was something like "Water-Aid donated by Ethiopa to drought struck Yorkshire"
The company officials didn't find it very funny and wouldn't talk to them... he he he.

The Midwest is bracing for another flood. People on the border of Minnesota and North Dakota are preparing as two rivers crest at the same time. One is expected to reach nine foot above flood level.
This isn't the end of the world, just the day in the life of those who choose to live on a flood plane.
Besides, we are still coming out of the last Ice Age, and as Simon pointed out. Our presence is shifting the balance. Nature is seeking that balance always. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, so long as we stay on the correct side of the scale.
Goodreams, your handle makes me laugh. Sorry, it keeps freaking me out. I'm hoping you were going for Good Dreams, but I keep reading it Goo Dreams or Good Reams. Either way is not a pretty picture.
My username has nothing to do with what I said.
Anyway, what's the problem with my handle? At least explain yourself better. I'm in vacations, my english is good as **** and I haven't yet understood if you are making fun of me or not. However, if I can't express my personal thoughts, I'll just leave the Chit Chat and stick with the VB stuff, because that's why I registered in the first place...
I hope I missunderstood your reply.
He wasn't making fun of you or your English...he was just saying that your handle was a bit funny :) Try not to take things too seriously.
He wasn't making fun of you.........there are just two sexual puns that can be made from your username and he was having a bit of a laugh with you. I'm sure he meant no offense......we enjoy your posts....don't let a misunderstanding scare you off!!:)
Whooo... Buddy, calm down. I was saying your handle made me laugh, not made angry.Quote:

As to why your handle is so amusing: It has one 'D'. So when I break it apart, I don't put another d in it. I read it as...
"Goo Dreams"
I smile. Then I move the d.
"Good Reams"
Maybe that is leading to the goo dreams, I don't know.
And then I laugh. It is funny.
I'm not making fun of you, I just find your handle funny. Calm down.
Oh, by the way: You're on vacation. I'm not sure if the use of in is something the British do, but in the American English, it is on. The British are just weird. They drop demonstrative pronouns, too, saying "I went to hospital" as opposed to "I went to the hospital". It just depends on from whom you learned your English.
ok...
Maybe I was caught in a bad mood.
If IsNull(Girlfriend) Then Computer.Crash
Erk...in that case, all is forgiven :)
Yeah, and we do silly things like pronounce an H at the beginning of the word Herb.... oh wait a minute, look there is an H there!!! Well blow me!Quote:

No, on is on and in is in. We don't use the word vacation though, that is a "holiday".Quote:

True, but you should hear people from "up north". That would sound like "I wen ta ospital". Blooming northerners!! :DQuote:

Take the piss out of, give pain to. As in: "My knees are giving my gyp" (my knees hurt like a bastard).

Current scientific research is pointing to the seven plagues of Egypt being the local take of the results of a Volcanic explolation

That explains the attitude of people living in England. It's hell on earth.
What about all the poor cows, sheep and pigs? What harm they ever do anyone?
Well they eat grass and fart alot. That's harm enough in my book.

But that's not what Reverand Billy Bob told us from his tv show last sunday. Your right!
