OS Boot Priority (WinXP then Win7)
Hi guys
I have both Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows7. At present, when I turn on my computer, the default priority is to Win7. But I want it to be WinXP.
I have google it and found that, I could change the order by going to MyComputer --> Properties --> Advanced Tab --> Startup&Recovery settings --> Default OS
But this has to be done from Win7. WinXP won't list Win7.
What I want to do is, set WinXP as the default OS. But I don't want to enter into Win7 to make the changes. I want this settings to be changed within XP itself. My Win7 is corrupted and I can't format that drive(as it contains other data along with the OS) at the moment.
Is it possible to set the default OS, from WinXP itself ?
Thanks
Re: OS Boot Priority (WinXP then Win7)
Windows Vista and 7 use a completely different booting system, which XP does not even know about.
If it is possible within XP at all, it will be by using a separate program.
I would recommend booting from the Win7 disk, as it should allow you to boot using a recovery mode, which may allow you to copy the data and/or change the boot settings.

Thanks si
Do you know any separate program that does this ?
Re: OS Boot Priority (WinXP then Win7)
I don't... and as nobody else has suggested one, I doubt that anybody knows of one.
Re: OS Boot Priority (WinXP then Win7)
hmm.. I couldn't try starting Win7. Since it is crashed, I used to store other data in that particular partition. There's not enough empty space left. The whole HDD is of 400GB and now only 400MB is free in C drive(where XP is installed) and only 125MB or something free in other drives. :P
Have to buy an external HDD to backup the data in that partition before repairing Win7. :)

Re: OS Boot Priority (WinXP then Win7)
if I'm not mistaken to do that xp would be installed on the primary partician (C: ) and win7 would be installed on a virtual partition (d: ) or a physical partition (also d: )
