HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
OK, so I ordered 2 HP touchpads from a local store when the fire sale started and the price dropped like a rock. They said they didn't have any at the store, but had more in the warehouse than were ordered as of yet. So I purchased a 16GB and 32GB model ($99 and $149).
So that was about 2 weeks ago, and I finally got a call yesterday that the 16GB model had come in. When I got there (about 30 minutes after they called), mine was one of 2 sitting behind the counter to be picked up (I am sure employees all got first dibs on theirs too). They said they "should" get the 32GB models in at some point (HP is actually still making these things until October, but only to fulfill backorders that were already placed I heard).
So do you think I should just keep the 16GB model and if I eventually get the 32GB model, then I should sell it? Or should I just keep this 16GB model in the box, and wait it out for the larger capacity?
I do plan to use WebOS for the short term, but as it gets to be too restrictive (there are only a small handful of apps I hear that are of any value), I would look to getting android running on it, which some people have already been able to do in some capacity)
Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
I would keep the 16GB in the box, wait for the 32GB. I have no doubt that any time in the coming months that you could easily sell the 16GB on eBay in no time flat. The other thought is you might consider keeping the 16GB for a backup to the 32GB if the Touchpad turns out to be something you end up using a lot.
Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
Keep the 16. Use it cleanly and carefully. If you get a 32, sell the 16. Someone will buy it, it's guaranteed.

Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
yeah I just wonder how far off any sort of stable android release rom is for the touchpad. All the videos I have seen are just the core OS and a few features working, and no one is releasing roms just yet.
I did end up opening the 16GB model and have been using it for about a day. Over all its pretty nice, but lack of apps is really a killer for it. Beyond webbrowsing and using it for email and scheduling via MS exchange, there is little to do on it.
Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
Would you be willing to sell on of those?
Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
Haven't decided yet, but to be honest, most of my local buddies here have already been nagging me in the event I do sell one. The other problem is I would feel bad making profit from someone I know, but on ebay they are selling for double the fire sale price.
I am sort of leaning towards giving the 16GB to my wife if I get the 32, since she already has migrated her angry birds addiction from my droid phone to her driod phone (now that she finally got one) to the touchpad.
Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
Any chance Bestbuy has any left in stock (stores)? I see they're no longer selling online. I have a friend in Boston that might be able to pick one up.
EDIT: I'm not in the US by the way so I can't look for myself. It would be a nice gift for my girlfriend, she doesn't need much more then Internet basically, and if Android becomes available at any point, the better.
Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
I think they are pretty scarce here in the US now. I had trouble finding it and I went looking the day they annouced the price drop.
HP did agree to do another run and make about 200K more touchpads, but this was to make the accessory makers feel better, the touchpad component makers to clear out some stock, and the fill orders that were placed at retail outlets for the really low prices.
I was told at the place I got mine that they should be able to fill all orders they had gotten, but are not allowed to take any additional orders because there wont be additional stock after the next run.
Honestly though, beyond the few basic things it does well, an android or ipad tablet is going to be much better, as the app support on the touchpad is nearly non existant.
If it didn't support exchange I probably would never use it for more than a webbrowser, but I can at least use it for work email and calendar management, which is nice.
Of course that will change if a valid android port does surface.
Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
Well, if anyone of you chaps in the US happens to run into an available device, any of the two, preferably the 16GB model at $99, and you also happen to trust me, be sure to buy one and drop me a line. Save the receipt (I'll need to for the customs), and I'll pay you for the device and shipping to me. :)
I'm completely serious.
The good scenario: someone finds and buys it for me. The bad: no one finds it, and I end up with nothing. The worst: 10 of you find it and I end up with 10 HP Touchpads :D
Re: HP touchpad (yeah I got one)
I've got a Palm IIIx if anyone wants it. It has wireless data transfer (IR), touch screen (you only have to calibrate it twice a day) and the batteries last about a month (that's actually true).
$7 ono.
:D
