Netbooks with solid state drives
Do you know of any manufacturer who sells netbooks with solid state drives in them?
Please give me a link.

Why do you absolutely want SSD ? Most of the netbooks manufacturer try to offer at least 120GB of space, so they mainly use normal hard drives in order to offer a low price.
Re: Netbooks with solid state drives
the acer aspire one is available with an ssd.
Re: Netbooks with solid state drives
I'd just buy a netbook with regular 2.5 in mechanical drive and then replace it with an SSD. This way, I don't have to stick with a particular make/model and I'm also free from choosing what size (capacity) the SSD will be.

Is it still available ? I have the Acer Aspire One 532h, its got a normal 5400rpm 160GB hard drive. Anyway, for the same price I wouldn't want a 30GB or so SSD, but that's just me.
Re: Netbooks with solid state drives
SSDs have their place, but there's a hidden cost no one talks about... their limited write cycles. Granted it is a gigantuan number, but they do have a life span that make them shorter that an standard HD. So make sure you're getting an SSD for the right reason.
For me, I plan to build a hybrid server built specifically to stream out music. the plan is to load the OS and the majority of application and database on to a standard HD... this is where the heavy amounts of disk writes are. the music files that will have basically write once (when I copy the files to the drive) but heavy reads, will be on an SSD... I'm hoping that this will help by being able to move from one song to the next muchj more smoothly, and save wear and tear on the HD since it won't be in a constant state of spinning as it's trying to read the music, write to the database, etc.
There's also hybrid drives that are available... that track what files are accessed over time, and will move items that have high access to the SSD partition to increase load speed.

given my track record with spinning drives, i don't know if they are really less reliable in the long run. I've had four hard drives fail on me in ten years.
Re: Netbooks with solid state drives
I wrecked that many in a single blow... over the last 10 years, I've wrecked 6-8 drives... to be more precise I've had 6-8 HD Failures in the last 10 years. Two laptops, a server (that counts for 3) and a desktop. the laptops failed when there was a sudden change in its altitude. The server one crashed due to aging hardware and constant disk activity (that was the streaming server) and the PC failure was also due to age. I run my HDs in to the ground and then some.

Re: Netbooks with solid state drives
three of mine were in the last three years, and to be fair, the fourth one was my fault. shock damage. two of the other three were and in fact still are under warranty.

I just might have to do that!

Thanks I checked it on Amazon. It weighs 5.3 pounds. Isn't that a tad heavy for a netbook?
Re: Netbooks with solid state drives
I believe that this weight is invalid. I have the Acer Aspire One 532h and it is only 2.48 pounds. See the specs here.

Yeah, I thought it might be a typo too.
Re: Netbooks with solid state drives
the item weight is wrong... what they have listed is the total shipping weight, box, packing material, CD/DVD, manuals, cables, Styrofoam, etc. that stuff typically will double the weight, so stlaural's numbers are probably more accurate.
