Re: New Airline regulation!
Note that this is up to the ticket price. And you have to be bumped from a flight to another flight.

Unless airlines build their own airports, it is impossible to have control over the flight schedules.
This has more to do with overbooking, which they most certainly can control.

If they don't over-book, then they risk the chance of not flying full.
That's a waste of fuel in my opinion.
If they sell all tickets and their passengers cancel, one of the rules says the passenger is entitled to a full refund.

LaHood’s rule also would let passengers cancel reservations within 24 hours of booking a flight without penalty, prohibit price increases after tickets are purchased and require airlines to notify consumers of delays of more than 30 minutes.
Damn if they do and damn if they don't.

Why do you feel so bad for the airline companies? It's not like they need charity to survive. It's their job to provide good service not the customers job to cater to them.
Re: New Airline regulation!
The airlines need to be knocked down a peg or two. Next up, the price of tickets and the TSA.
Re: New Airline regulation!
There'll always be a certain demand for the service that the airlines provide so even if some of them go out of business they are not all going to go out of business. By the way the last time I flew on an airplane was back in 1996. Went from Los Angeles to New Jersey and then back a week later for training on some copiers. Did the same thing a year before that in 1995. I flew to Hawaii and back in 1994. Those were the only times I've flown in the past 20 years. Haven't flown at all since 1996.

Yea, the TSA needs to have something done. The last 4 times I've flown, I didn't once get felt up by them, it was super disappointing.

I own stock in them! :p
Re: New Airline regulation!
Over here at Mumbai, the flights have to fly as per the schedule given to them by the airport controlling authorities. If you miss your designated slot, you have to join the queue, which means your next slot could be an hour later. So if the flight is held up for a passenger who arrived a couple of minutes late, the entire flight gets delayed by an hour.
I do see that there are things outside the airlines' control, but after all we didn't ask them to undercut each other's prices at the cost of the passengers.
