Automatically close "resolved" threads
Here's an idea: Every time someone marks a thread "resolved," the forums could automatically close the thread to new replies. If a problem marked "resolved" has not actually been resolved, the OP can just send a message to one of the moderators asking him/her to reopen the thread.
Re: Automatically close "resolved" threads
Thanks, but how would a person know that he doesn't need new information and/or help? In any case if the original poster is no longer interested in the thread he can unsubscribe from it.

Sounds like work. :)

Yes, for me:(

Just send all requests to Penagate lol.
If a resolved thread is closed, members should be creating new threads with a link referencing the resolved thread so new issues stay on topic?

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea! I have seem on other forums that they close the thread after say three months if no further replies are made in that time.
Re: Automatically close "resolved" threads
It actually sounds very annoying...
What's the issue with open threads?

There are a couple I can think of: spam, resurrection of long since dead thread, etc.
Re: Automatically close "resolved" threads
Thanks for the original suggestion but as many of you know, changes to the software are only done if there is a compelling reason to do so and I don't think any of the reasons given here reach that level.
Re: Automatically close "resolved" threads
I'd have to agree with Marty's first reply. I've seen quite often where one suggestion is provided and the OP resolved it. Though it probably worked for them, it was a rather poor suggestion meaning there are better, more efficient, not necessarily more advanced, solutions that were later posted. This may not immediately help the OP, though it should have if he/she returned to their thread; but it would definitely help others that happened upon that thread.
This is not the same issue as if the OP decided later to un-resolve the thread.
By automatically closing the thread, one of the unintended results will be that poor or even wrong information is 'locked' as the solution when otherwise, a more correct solution could be applied. Threads in the forum are not the really just for the OP, but for all.
