If I get the message "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later." one more time I'm going to start screaming. I got that message maybe 20 times yesterday, and at least 50 times so far today.
John, what's going on?

I reckon it is the Chit Chat forum which is at fault. People use it like IRC, the server simply cannot deal with the load and it stops people who genuinely want to talk/help about VB from doing so.
This may be controversial, but my advice John is to forget the Chit Chat forum. This is a VB site, not ICQ. Without Chit Chat, they're wouldn't be half the amount of current server activity!
Remember that this vBulletin software that we are using is still in beta, so we are still ironing it out for bugs.
We're doing our best. There have been a few minutes of proper down time today as we upgraded the server software.

That's cool, John. I don't mean to bust your hump, considering this is far and away the most valuable discussion board I've ever seen.
It's akin to heroin addiction - if I can't get my VB-World fix, I start to jones. :)
It sounds like you're on top of it. Keep up the good work, it is much appreciated.
Hey John, I wasn't dissing, just I think Chit Chat is the cause. Without it, you probably wouldn't have to upgrade servers/software. Then you could re-enable our beloved search...Quote:

Why wouldn't he want to upgrade to the latest version of MySQL?
chrisjk, are you trying to say that we should get rid of the ChitChat forum???
I think it's a waste of limited resources, yes. I think for the sanity of members who wish to talk about VB, anyone who is a pure Chit Chatter should go use Yahoo Messenger, AOL, MSN whatever if you're that desperate to chat.I'm not saying he wouldn't, but he is isn't only having to deal with that. He's got vBulletin to maintain as well. People keep moaning about the speed and how it keeps busting under pressure, then they go make 400 posts a minute in Chit Chat.Quote:

Say...the PHPSquare forums are low-traffic -- maybe we could move Chit Chat over there?
Now that is supercalafagulisticexmealladoshius (i'm v. sorry Miss Poppins If that was spelt incorrectly) idea parksie. What do you reckon John?
but that is if dennis doesn't be annoying and charge for it :D
I'm only charging you for it Steve.... You know I have to keep my $50 a day software habit going strong.... ;)
That actually sounds like a pretty good idea... How 'bout it everybody?
Edited:
Actually, it's not such a good idea, VB-W is running Linux, PHPSquare is only running Win2k, after about a day of Mike, Katie, Simon and Me, the server would be down on it's knee's ;):(
This server's running LINUX? cool...
