Any ideas for the next coding contest? It's been 3 years...
Add a poll to this thread to know how many of us will participate ;)
I can't do that because nobody seems to have an idea in the first place!
An idea can be found but it's only worth it if there are people interested in participating to a contest. I'll agree with adding a poll.
I'm gonna be super bored this year, so bring it on :afrog:
Write an Android App that will interface with VBForums.com
I can imagine something like that.
Though I'm not sure if that is against the AUP considering the advertisements.
You're right. It might be against the AUP.
And it should really not be a mobile thing.
... okay, maybe. But at least we know that everyone using the site has a computer.
You guys are overlooking the crucial element. The prize. What is the prize?
Exactly the same as that of the photography contest, as always :D
What about a GUI design contest? That would be fun, and no entries would be the same.
I've put a post in the official thread for this. It was suggesting a social networking client. Points can be awarded for interface, networks implemented and how well they have been. Basically a clone of something like gwibber (those ubuntu users out there will know what im talking about).
Heh... I hate social networking :)
All the more reason to understand it. That way when people ask you why your ammo has suddenly turned into rockets. :D
Why not make a series of puzzles that would include programming but not limited to it? Something like, say, 5 puzzles with the answer to each one needed to proceed with the next. This might attract more people.
Random maze generation, and it has to solve itself using the most efficient path.
That's too easy...
Eureka! I just got an idea :D
Wouldn't it be nice if we had a tiny little app..:

...that would notify us when we have a new subscribed thread? Of course, that little LED should have a different color, maybe orange,
when nothing has changed since the last time you checked :).
http://www.vbforums.com/attachment.p...1&d=1283986085 :)
And so, if you hover the mouse over (or click the green LED), a new window will pop up, showing all the threads
that you are subscribing. We could then just click on the items to show the page with the thread in our browser...

I think you guys know what I'm talking about?! So come on, this would be cool :)
Of course, it doesn't have to look like the one in the pictures above, and the more useful functions you add, the better :)
:thumb: Game on! :thumb:
I asked about that and started making a program a little while ago (in January, I think) but it's against the forum rules.
Oh darn it, and I who spent 10 minutes of my lovely evening making those pictures... :(
Thanks for the tip akhileshbc :) Just downloaded, and it looks promising, especially the notifier that pops up at the bottom of the screen :)
Welcome...
I don't think listing threads is against the rules, but logging on definitely is.
Generally speaking anything which takes traffic away from the website (and hence the ads) is bad.
However, a lot of content is accessible via RSS feeds, which would be fair game in my opinion.
So what about using an actual WebBrowser control to view the website?
