How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Hi all,
I have HP Pavilion dv6000 series laptop and comes with built-in webcam. I am trying to use it but not able to.
I remember I have used it once or twice few months back using HP Quickplay app. It used to list HP Webcam.
But now it doesn't show it up anymore.
I have downloaded and installed latest drivers from HP website, but still no luck.
Any solutions/ideas/suggestions?
Thank you
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
In Device Manager, Click on the plus ( +) sign next to Imaging Devices and locate the webcam item in the device list. Show me a snapshot of the same.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
That's the problem, there are no such devices available in Device Manager.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
What is the OS that you are using?
See if this helps you....

Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Windows Vista Home premium. I distinctively remember that I used it long back when I bought it. Using HP Quickplay.
I have already visited that link, and followed their instructions, yet no luck.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Is it maybe turned off? Usually laptops have a way to switch of stuff like that to conserve batter (webcam, wifi, bluetooth etc). See if there is a button around for it, or maybe a function key combination to toggle it, like FN+F4 or something.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Ok Manually try and find the device and see it it recognises from control panel...
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Hi,
@baja_yu, there is no switch for webcam. I have checked, rechecked and also checked the manual from HP website.
@koolsid, I cannot see webcam listed when I try to manually add any Imaging device.
The driver from HP website doesn't seem to do the trick.
Any more suggestions?
Thank you.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
these things connect through the usb bus. Make sure all your usb buses are enabled and none of them are overtaxed with connected devices. Also... Boot into bios. I have never owned a laptop with a webcam built-in, but the bios has an area for "built-in devices" and pretty much anything can be turned off. Some even let you disable usb altogether.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Hello,
Just formatted my system and installed Win 7 & Ubuntu, none of which could detect my webcam. Can it be more of a hardware issue? Also, I couldn't find Win 7 webcam driver(s) for my HP Pavilion dv6516tx model.
@Lord Orwell, I checked my BIOS settings. Nothing's there to tweak USB or similar settings.
I tried using lsusb command on Ubuntu, but the list didn't show anything related to webcam.
Any help/suggestions?

sounds like you've eliminated everything except hardware. But a $5 clip-on webcam and call it a day.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
I'd take a guess that the Vista drivers from HP's site would work.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Vista drivers for windows XP?, Because i am running Windows XP. It will work?

maybe but probably not. The only way it would is if it's a unified driver package. The first thing i would install from their website is the chipset driver. Your internal usb bus may not be installed and the chipset driver will fix that if that is the case.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Hmm, I thought those shipped with Vista. Anyway what about HP Pavilion Webcam Driver?

Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
Later dv6000 laptops shipped with Vista, and Windows 7 is not officially supported. The Vista drivers should work for Windows 7 though.
I couldn't give a rodent's hindquarters about Linux, and that guy just jumped in and piggybacked on the thread anyway. But the link is for XP drivers for dv6000 laptops.
Re: How to use HP Laptop Webcam
If no one works maybe the hardware is not functioning.
