I've used it, so there are certainly uses.
You must have found a use for it yourself if you have learnt how to do it so its likely that someone else will have a use for it, so yeah do it :) though obviously check to see if there is anything already in there on the same topic first as I'm sure I've seen some articles/examples on Serialization in there before... but knowing nothing about it myself I cant say if its the same thing that you are talking about.
I guess I'll start writing the tutorial. Let's hope I can get it working right :P
